Please think for a moment and use your brain on this one.
It seems that to be a Democratic Presidential Candidate one must at least claim to be pro-choice.
Likewise, it seems that to be a Republican Presidential Candidate one must claim to be against abortion.
Howsoever, I think that a presidential candidates views on abortion are completely irrelevant, and here’s why.
The Supreme Court decision in Roe vs. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 was announced on January 22, 1973. Basically, this decision ruled that the Constitution gave women the right to have an abortion.
Many have been fighting this ruling ever since, but to no avail. It is my belief that this ruling will never be overturned.
Since the ruling of Roe vs. Wade, the republicans have held the majority in both the senate and the house many times.
There have even been times when the Republican Party had control of the senate, the house, and the presidency.
If such was enough to overturn the decision, and if they actually wanted to, it would have been done by now.
Ultimately, I believe that the Supreme Court would need to rule otherwise, so no matter who is in the house, the senate, or the presidency, nothing will be changing.
Even if the senate and house passed a bill and the president didn’t veto it, it would not be allowed to be signed into law because it would be found to be unconstitutional, based on how the Supreme Court has already “interpreted” things.
It is also worth remembering that when the Supreme Court issued their 7-2 vote on Roe vs. Wade, 5 of the justices that voted in favor were republican appointed justices.
Please do not be fooled into thinking that Republicans can or will make abortion illegal.
Such is not the case, and such claims do not validate voting for them.
2+2=4
Thanks, @narrowminded
I am uncertain what you are trying to achieve in this post. Does it matter to you how many babies a candidate will assent to kill? Isn't the problem that they, as your representative, would assent to kill even one baby? That just doesn't represent me, and I could not vote for one who would.

It seems that Republicans use a "pro-life" claim as bait to attempt to get your vote. For years now the impression that they often give is, "If you vote for me, I will help stop the innocent babies from being murdered." Time and time again, such has been proven not to be the case. I was just trying to point out that no President will ever be able to change this, so we shouldn't let their claims about abortion beliefs sway our votes. Does this make sense, @neopatriarch?

So will you be voting for any of the major candidates? Will you be voting at all?

Interesting. I voted for the Constitution Party candidate last time too, and was considering no longer voting as perhaps the best option. I really think that regardless of votes, they generally put in who they want anyway, especially at the presidential level. Thank you for your reply, @neopatriarch.

I usually vote, though in reality I think whoever "counts" the votes really decides. As far as major candidates, no. I could not in good conscience cast a vote for either Trump or Hillary.

Are you trying to vote for the lesser evil? I wrote a blog about that. You can read it here: https://steemit.com/politics/@neopatriarch/are-you-voting-for-the-lesser-evil

To answer "Are you trying to vote for the lesser evil?" - I say, no, never. I would not vote for any evil. Do you vote at all, or opt not too?

In the past I have always felt it was a duty to vote. Last time I voted for a pro-life candidate (Constitution Party) that did not win. I think now though I am done voting. I just cannot be complicit with this fraudulent system anymore.

Why would a party who receives millions of votes and backing via one line, " I am against abortion" mess that up and eliminate the very thing that gets them elected and keeps us divided? answer they wouldn't. I mention to some, in Iran 40 percent of the vote is won by these simple words, "death to America", why would they mess that up? I'm guessing on the 40 percent, it may be more.

They will not eliminate saying it, but we can eliminate believing it. That was my point. Don't buy the lie.

Still president nominates Supreme Court members, no?

Even if the next President were to nominate one pro life judge that would make only one pro life judge on the Supreme Court. Don't look to the Republicans to change this. The Roe vs. Wade decision was written by a Republican nominee. About half of the court are Republican nominees , and none of them are strictly pro-life.
I know, you're probably thinking of one, that you believe is pro-life. Look them up on Prolife Profiles

Yes, and perhaps the next president could even appoint up to 4, but that is no guarantee of anything. We can be pretty sure that the Democrats won't work on overturning Roe vs. Wade, and it was the Republican appointed justices who brought us that ruling in the first place. A president appointing a Supreme Court Justice does not mean that the Justice will obey whatever the President tells them, so I believe that it really won't make a difference.

There's no guarantee, that's true. However the opposite IS guaranteed: elect a pro-abortion Democrat and no progress will be made at all. And overturning Roe v. Wade isn't the only abortion battle. Lots of other restrictions can be put in place to act as a deterent. Or is that just at the state level?

I think that is at the state level, and states are supposed to govern themselves for the most part. I like what is happening in the fight against Planned (prevention of) Parenthood though.
