TRUMP'S AFGHANISTAN POLICY: IT MATTERS HOW HE DOES IT

in politics •  7 years ago

In response to my previous post on the subject, there was a comment about opium that led me to write this post.
AFGHANISTAN
If anyone thinks that they can win by military force in Afghanistan they are delusional. They don't know the history or the people. They also fail to understand that the general population of Afghanistan does not want the presence of American Military on their land. If Trump takes more military action then 4 presidents later we will still be fighting this war.

If Trump's objective is to get rid of the terrorists then that's a very complicated task. It's complicated because by our definition of radical..ism and terror...ism, almost everyone there will meet the criteria. It's a country that has been at constant war not for decades but for generations. What is one to expect?

For anyone with sensibilities beyond just military strategies, It should be easy to see that the way to victory in Afghanistan is a generational change in reverse. Improve education and economy and telecommunications. Use media to influence the new generation. This strategy must be combined with ruthless force and military action to protect these long range changes, if these changes are opposed.

I hope the Administration can see this, otherwise it's all in vain. You can't bomb a country back to the Stone Age and the next month want them to assimilate western values. Even the west is divided right now in deciding what are values are. We are on the brink of a civil war in America. If we cant figure it out by now then don't expect others to start seeing things your way whenever you want them to. I would like to see less bombs and more focus on society advance.

PAKISTAN
Pakistan's future now is tied to China. All the military development and infrastructure will be a Chinese endeavor for the price of strategic lands in Pakistan. Allow me 2 links here so it becomes easier to understand.

US is not in a psition to threaten Pakistan without indirectly threatening China. I think Trump was trying the India card with Pakistan and China without mentioning China. I don't think he can succeed there. America now has to struggle for influence in those regions. Does anyone remember the behavior of Filipino president Duterte?

I hope lessons have been learned and the foreign policy and rhetoric can change for the better. We have lost a lot of influence and not because we wanted to focus within our borders but because we have rattled our sabers everywhere unnecessarily.

As far as the opium question is concerned, which is what led to this post, the issues now are far greater than the poppy fields of Afghanistan.

That is a quagmire. If I were the USA president I would do everything I could to get out of there as quick as possible.

I think once again the deep state got to him
