The people you are calling communists are usurpers of the term.
They had to embrace the rhetoric of the anarchists to get the masses to allow their tyranny.
They were explicitly not communist, but your education didn't give you that granular of a eductation, as it didn't serve the purposes of those that created the NEA.
They preferred to dumb down their populations by using the memory hole.
