After reading an Esquire article titled “An Interview With Jacob Soboroff, the Reporter Who Went Inside the Texas Walmart Housing Immigrant Children,” written by Kate Storey, I was shocked at what is happening in the USA!

Mr. Soboroff talks about a crowded space where the children are being kept. He reports that some children are suffering from Psychological Distress! The amount of 10-17 year olds is overwhelming, and I cannot help but wonder what happens next.
In a story covered by npr.org, “Doctors Concerned About 'Irreparable Harm' To Separated Migrant Children”. This piece presents a similar but more disheartening story, stating “The number of migrant children in U.S. government custody is soaring — partly the result of a policy decision by the Trump administration to separate children from their parents who are being prosecuted for unlawful entry. Hundreds of the children being held in shelters are under age 13.” What a disgrace!
Even esteemed comedian Stephen Colbert weighs in on the issue during his Late Show, in a piece titled: “Jeff Sessions Cites The Bible In Separating Children From Parents”.
As an American citizen, I am having trouble swallowing this pill of reality. How is this legal? Have we not learned anything from history? Putting people (whether they are African Americans, Jews, Japanese, Native Americans or Refugees) in “camps” is always a ‘recipe for disaster’. Will we ever learn from our mistakes? Right now, it seems the answer is no.
