Brexit explained

Reading that title you might be thinking to yourself, if you think you can explain Brexit then you don't understand what is going on. If you are thinking that you won't need to read this post as you will have some sense of the whole thing that has been called by the B word.

Anyway, here it is explained.

In 2016, the British public were asked if they would like to remain or leave the European Union (EU). This became what is commonly called Brexit because the word takes the Br from British and combines it with the word exit.

The Leavers won by a narrow margin. But it was a high turnout, better than some general elections. Despite this, the Remain camp, known as Remainers, Remainiacs and Hard Remainers, said that the Leavers didn't know what they were voting for, were all stupid and racist. They now claim that Russia interfered with the vote and that there was some odd skullduggery going on with Facebook .

The Leavers were delighted they won naturally but had differing views on the best way to, let's say it, Brexit. The ruling governing party lost its leader and the UK its Prime Minister, and Theresa May duly took charge. Her Cabinet is divided and ever since the vote there have been arguments over the type of Brexit we are going to have.

The Remainers say they accept the result but want to make leaving as smooth as possible. The Leavers don't believe them but some actually agree with some of the ideas of the Remainers although they never admit this.

Right now the Government is still working on what they want and the European Union is saying no to every suggest and then pointing out the clock is ticking towards the day Britain is no longer a member of the EU.

Who knows where it will all end. Probably with a compromise, the UK leaving but with a trade deal that looks similar to the relationship we currently have.
