This is the same problem I have with infosec "threat intelligence": It does not matter who did it. The only things that affect the future are the how and the what. Everything else is an emotional distraction from the facts of how to address it.
The how is "because the DNC is incompetent at IT and corruptly preventing democratic candidate selection". The what is "making the public more informed".
A news story I heard yesterday or the day before on Fox News said that Podesta was phished. Subsequently I heard, also from Fox News, that WickiLeaks got the information from someone who had legitimate access to it.
I think you are right: It does not matter who did it, particularly since the information was more or less proven to be true.
