Mikhail Gorbachev has called on US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to restore confidence between these two countries.
Gorbachev told the Russian state news agency, RIA Novosti, that "after all, it is good that the meeting will happen, but it is regrettable that it should have been expected so far".
"They have to restore their trust. Until now, these countries do not have a common constructive agenda, "he said.
"We now need a push, like that of 1986 in Reykjavik," Gorbachev said. "We need to negotiate everything, so we can develop a mechanism for interaction, not just for speculative problems, but for all."
There are currently some issues that the United States and Russia have different attitudes, although President Trump has said he is willing to establish better relations.
