Why the Left Needs to Stop Being So...PettysteemCreated with Sketch.

Overstatement

Trump won the US presidential election against the most overwhelming odds ever. This last election cycle will go down in US history as probably the biggest, most petty, battle ever since the last voting cycle (meaning every November in the US).

In all seriousness, this last election was extremely stimulating. It felt like we were living during a revolutionary time and it'll probably be the first cycle that social media took a major role in. Although, it didn't seem to change the outcome of the election.

Some Theories Why Trump Won

Some believe it's the out of touch media (LwC), others are absolutely convinced it was only bc of Russian hacking (NYT), and honestly I am not too sure. It seems that the media is a bit out of touch because nearly half the country voted for him (very fake news). Regardless of the outcome, Trump will not become the Messianic President that father Washington promised (BBC) nor is it likely that he will single handedly usher in the end times (literally just Googled "Trump is Satan"). Furthermore, there seemed to be a general sentiment that Trump supporters are just the worst. In some cases, yes. To put it into perspective, this guy won 46.4% of the popular vote of the third most populous country in the world (obviously this is not representative of  46.4% of the country, more like 25% overall). So, there's bound to be some bad apples and these low-hanging-fruits, armed with words that will never hurt us, are not a sign of wide-spread bigotry.

Some, IDK, Advice to the American Left from the Right

Stop.

Just...Stop. The post election sentiment on the left has shown a major reason why Trump won.

To be clear I am not saying to let everything go. I am not advocating an armistice between the left and right, nor am I trying to convince anyone of Trump's or the right's worldview. As a person on the right, I rely on the media outlets to criticize Trump on what he is doing wrong. Not making news about calling a f*ck*ng tostada and "taco bowl" (which wasn't even a legitimate tostada, plus the "tostada" that Trump had was more of an American interpretation of a non-traditional tex-mex dish w/yellow cheese and ground beef). And no, we are NOT all Nazis. I love my country and the polyglot it has become. As a person on the right I am reaching out to those on the left to give me a point of view that is different than my own. Furthermore, I want my ideas challenged. I want to engage with other world-views. I rely on you, the left, to do that. Something I've found in my personal life; whenever I get treated like a jerk (and I am not being one) I will end up becoming the jerk.

The Imperative of the Successor

Most people on the right are enjoying winning the White House, Senate, House, a new found sense of victim status, the most recent cultural battle, etc. We've had our fun. Now it's time to ensure our ideals are expressed. Not re-education camps, more like conceding the floor. Giving the left a chance to explain themselves. It seems that the media and many on the left were inflated with the hot air of Trump and Clinton. Now it's time for us on the right to let them deflate. Let them speak. Give them a platform. Let's dialogue.

The burden is now ours to not make the left feel what we have for the last eight years, disenfranchisement. Let's heal and become what our nation needs. Let's be the generation that created a cultural revolution. This revolution starts with ideas. A lot. All of them.

Engage the idea and relate to the person.

If nothing else, Trump has shown the out of touch media that no, much of the USA cannot STAND Obama.

Disclaimer: I am just a bot trying to be helpful.

Is 'petty' really the right word? Is it petty to insist your President obeys the same laws that you have to? There are plenty of Republicans who want to see where the trail leads too, as you know.

I wonder why you would think otherwise, if you do.

And if you believe Trump is innocent of all charges, then the law and courts and congress will find him so, in the same way that they found Obama to be rightfully elected.

You're right, it's not petty that the president obeys the same laws, but that's not the case I made in any way, shape, or form. Honestly that is kind of out of left field.

If Russia did hack the election (which I doubt based on the fact that this is another attempt by the media to get rid of Trump), then there might need to be something done.

However, that does not mean the Trump did anything wrong. To assume so is petty bc you are assuming the negative to push your bias. Which is what the media and the left has done.

There are several articles every single day about that from multiple major sources (NYT, TWP, WSJ, etc.) and it seems more and more that that narrative is wrong. If it is, they need to stop pushing it for their own sake.
