Tools of control: Political correctness

in politics •  6 years ago  (edited)

In recent years we have seen political correctness spread to the point where it covers every aspect of our lives from school to home and public spaces are filled with political correctness. This is a trend that although it was used in the academic field, today it has encompassed society in its entirety. Politicians make use of this tool and use it as a badge of political impropriety to legitimize themselves within the masses, waging a battle over whether or not political correctness is a form of censorship.

We must, therefore, ask ourselves what political correctness really is. In practice, one could consider it a euphemism that is used to remove the semantic charge from a word for a word with less charge, it is an attempt to neutralize the offensive of ideas and actions in society with the ultimate aim of ending the hostility that exists towards certain minority groups, a clear example of this, that is to say African-American instead of Black, to say developing country instead of underdeveloped country or to say blind person instead of blind.

We can then say that the purpose of political correctness is to prohibit and suppress texts that incite hatred' of various kinds of ideas. All this is based on the idea that altering language alters reality. According to Sapphire Wolf's hypothesis, language shapes our reality. Such as 1984, where the hypothesis is maintained that through a neo-language people lose the ability to think and see the reality of the way it is. In this case, we are not talking about such a counterproductive evolution at the level of 1984 but we are certainly reaching levels where it is already beginning to affect and bring about social problems. The central problem is that we are dealing with a subversion, alteration, and manipulation of a term.

Political according to Collins dictionary:

Political means relating to the way power is achieved and used in a country or society.
Correct according to Collins dictionary:
If something is correct, it is in accordance with the facts and has no mistakes.
However, if we use the logical questioning we should ask ourselves:
  • Who do I define as right?
  • Right about what? Right about what?
  • Right for whom?
So what this raises is that any person, any individual or any being can define what is right and exploit the term of so-called political correctness and there is the problem of political correctness which then denies any universal idea and puts the perspectives and interpretations of terms before the truths, there is no doubt that this crisis of political correctness is so palpable in this age of postmodernity. And there is no doubt that the same political correctness is used to favor the parties and their leaders, who use this weapon to their own advantage, being the liberals and progressives who have made the most use of this resource in recent years.

This tool is nothing more than a vague resource that not only serves as an attempt to eliminate any kind of hostility in any term, expression or act but also serves to divert attention and disguise the reality that is literally what it is. This is why this resource has been more than exploited not only by the media but also by the media, which often alter the reality by carrying a diffuse message, this being the only reality that millions of citizens around the world are aware of.

In this way, the media maintain all kinds of euphemisms to disguise reality. If one tries to accept and applaud neutrality, it reaches the point where it normalizes and expands to all kinds of discourses with a central focus, the masses, society gets used to this kind of euphemisms and leaves aside questioning as critical thinking. They are not innocent people being lethal victims of various attacks, but they are collateral damage, they are not tax increases, they are not tax adjustments, they are not outsourcing, they are labor readjustments, they are a war that brings "justice" for humanitarian warfare.

Political correctness is not a way of trying to avoid spreading hatred to various groups but a form of political discourse intended to legitimize itself within the masses. The purpose of political correctness is to censor, so let's look at cases such as minority groups that consider any kind of reference to rape as a way of promoting it as an extremely complex and delicate issue. The most recent case of censorship based on this politically correct strategy was Alex Jones' ban on Twitter, Facebook, Apple and Youtube for "inciting hatred".

What is not really understood is that political correctness does not bring a benefit in itself, because altering or reducing the meaning of a term with ideological fines will lead to misunderstandings and confusion around it to the point of considering that everything is politically correct, where facts do not prevail over emotions and we only speak of relative truths. No one is wrong, any human being is as right as I am, and so the ambiguity of legal frameworks such as the laws and constitutions with them has given way. In short, political correctness is a disturbance of the real order of things to the extent that it threatens society and everything that has brought benefit with it.

Feminist, nationalist, pro-LGBTQI+, you name it, or politically correct depends on interests and powers, it doesn't mean good or better it means right according to my vision or political ideology.

Nicolas Maduro, president of Venezuela, is a living example of the damage and what represents the politically correct, he goes in his speeches to make up the reality in his favor creating enemies to stay in power, the problem according to him is not that his economic measures are inefficient because he has the right thing on his side, and it is correct that the economy is being affected by a greedy and oligarchic opposition and the fact that all countries are against their economic plans only represents a 'subversion' by the US'lackeys', the main cause of the crisis in Venezuela.

More examples of political correctness which in fact must be addressed as political madness:

The principle is that it bans or censures in the foreground but it replaces and in the background, it bans and censures, i.e. censorship is not visible at first sight, this is really effective of this kind of political strategies that can be used for any purpose. The ability to substitute for notions and descriptions of reality places an emphasis on making various types of terms a violation of my individual or collective right since my perception of that term is more important than the reality of the term.

Political correctness in this way gives way to a merely childish society, which does not assume its responsibilities because it does not confront reality, flees from it seeking refuge in its feelings and this is well taken advantage of by politicians. A totally confused and illogical society with respect to what it wants to achieve is a consequence of postmodernism that uses political correctness to do this, to alter, distract and divert reality and thus politicians can be corrupt, murderers, thieves but never bad because the language prevails reality.
