The Doomed Compromise of Collectivism and Individualism

Roughly half of humans are naturally collectivists and the other half are individualists and they always will be. The fatal flaw of society is attempting to merge the two societal systems (socialism and capitalism) to make both parties happy. However, the merging of the two systems lessens the effectiveness of each system, making both parties unhappy.

The best solution may be to separate the parties—the collectivists and individualists—into separate societies. Ideally there would be free movement or immigration between the societies, as collectivists will inevitably give birth to individualists and vice versa. Plus, people may change their ideology or realize they were wrong all along.

Secession is the easiest route to this end. Shrink federal government until it is non-existent, and make states their own entities with complete autonomy. Let individualist states be as free market and libertarian as they want, and let collectivist states be as socialist as they want—but without taking any federal taxes front the capitalist states. There can also be states that attempt a compromise between the two systems, as we have now, but if it’s defunct, citizens can opt out and move to another state (unlike now where all states are connected through the federal government). With different states competing for citizens, it will incentivize each state to improve its system, and may the best system win.

I’d place my bets on the most individualist/libertarian states, but it may turn out that a socialist system can work in a society where everyone freely chooses to join in (and can leave whenever they want). However, the current system of compromise is a total mess and will only get messier in the future as long as the states remain united.
