In a world of politcal correctness, comedians are the "canary in the coalmine"

in politics •  7 years ago  (edited)

In order to protect miners from poisonous gases that could leak into a mine as a result of their activities, miners would place canaries in cages and bring them into the coalmines with them.

The canaries would be effected by any gas leaks and would die before the miners would be harmed. Canaries effectively operated as a low tech indicator that it was time to get out of the mine or suffer the consequences.

Interestingly, as political correctness grows in popularity among certain groups in society, comedians are talking about the difficulties of making jokes in such a TOXIC environment.

Bill Burr talks about his experiences in this video/interview:

What do you think about political correctness?

Is it a problem?

Are the belief systems that are coming out of it correct?

Or are they distorted and harmful to both individuals and society?
