Should Donald Trump have gotten assassination insurance?

I am concerned for Donald Trump's personal safety. This is not out of any affiliation to him or his political party, but out of the circumstances of the current election. Donald Trump has  set himself up to be taken out, and I really do think it will happen.

Let's look at the current situation from a non-partisan, realistic perspective. Donald Trump speaks openly about the mistakes of neoconservatives like the Clintons, Dubya Bush, and so on, calling the Iraq war a stupid mistake, talking about how US intervention has strengthened Al Quaeda and created ISIS, and so on. He's said that he'll end the defense contractor gravy train and all deals will have to be renegotiated. This is very bad news for the welfare-warfare state and I don't think it is something they'll take sitting down. If he somehow does end up winning the popularity contest in November, what is to stop these state profiteers from assassinating him?

Nothing, in my opinion. When Trump selected Pence as a running mate, he pretty much sealed his doom. He should have been wise like Barack Obama and selected a running mate who would serve as assassination insurance. You see, many people may have hated Obama and wanted to see him gone, but if that happened then Joe Biden would become president. Even the most deep-seated hatred could not bring someone to the point of making Joe Biden president.

However Trump did not act with such foresight. He selected Mike Pence, who supports the Orwellian permanent Patriot Act, supports all of the adventurism and intervention of the US military around the world, supports an ever increasing military budget, and so on. If the military contractors and their owners want their white-collar welfare to continue unchecked, they have a very easy solution should Trump win the presidency.

So while I don't agree with Trump, or Clinton, or the premise of having winners of popularity contest rule over supposedly free people, I am concerned for Mr. Trump. I don't want to see anyone fall victim to violence. I think he should re-consider his choice for vice president, and get himself some assassination insurance.
