Why Do Black Americans Vote Democrat? (Legit Question)

in politics •  7 years ago  (edited)

Sorry this is a long post. Wanted to source the material given its polarizing nature.

I’m not an American and I’ve only visited the US a few times. American politics are an interest of mine. Recently Kanye West has been in the news and viciously attacked by the left for supporting Trump. It begs the question why do black Americans vote democrat? I say black instead of African American because there is a very distinct cultural difference between African immigrants from recent years and those brought over during slavery.

The democrats have an ugly racist history. In the past the democrat party used white supremacy to garner white votes. Today they use hatred to rally minority groups against white/straight/male/christian. Its the same trick from the past, different political extreme or side of the same coin. What I have observed from a distance is Democrats are the party of hatred and class division. Its why I legitimately have the question why do black Americans vote Democrat?

  4. This number comes from Carter G. Woodson’s research into the 1830 consensus. It should be noted a lot of the black slave owners purchased family members. Not all black slave owners were benevolent with their purchases. There is a roots article below.

  5. This one is kinda half true because of differences in laws over time and between states. For example William Ellison was able to earn income and free himself, later becoming a slave owner himself. Some slave owner allowed their slaves to keep a portion of the wages from their labor. I don’t have good links for this one to simplify the complexity of it.

The welfare schemes are not designed to help those in need they are designed to keep people dependent on the government. The result is catastrophic, as it leads to single parent families. Asian Americans for example have the highest income, lowest single parent families and currently do better than non Hispanics whites social-economically. There is a direct relationship to wealth/education/crime and single parent families.

The Atlantic brings ups a good point about the complexity of the relationship. They didn’t mention the advancements in technology, with cameras everywhere advances in forensics including the use of DNA. The risk of getting caught is far greater today than years ago. The Ratio of crime seems hold true

Mass ILLEGAL immigration hurts low income legal immigrants and minority groups through unfair market competition. Employers of legal labor have greater cost/risks due to taxes and regulations. Given the same pay for both, legal workers will have less take home pay due to taxes vs under the table. This creates a market handicap for ILLEGAL immigrants. ILLEGAL immigrants can work below minimum wage creating more unfair competition.

Then there is the issue of fairness. I don’t know the exact number, I feel confident that there is at least 1 billion people on this planet who would drop everything at a moments notice and leave their families behind to come to the US. Its not fair that some people are born into poor countries. Its also not fair for ILLEGAL immigrants to cut in line ahead of those applying legally. Its not racist to want to secure your borders and have merit based immigration system.

Since the US government doesn’t know the exact number of illegal immigrant most of the data is mixed with legal/illegal immigration if you want to do more research. The 2020 census will ask citizenship status better information should be available then.

There are racist on both sides of the political spectrum, racism has always existed and will probably continue to exist for many more years to come. The question is for both left and right is, where do your political opinions come from? Did you get them through research and critical thought? Are you just parroting those around you? I don’t think Republican policies are racist, they are based on equal rights in a merit based system and not equality of outcome. Look at the demographics of whites who support Republicans vs those that support Democrats and difference is the belief in individualism (right) vs collectivism (left).

My view is that the US is all about the money when it comes to politics. I also feel that it's all about the haves and have not, I could be wrong but that's how it appears to me globally. The more bread you got the less sh*t you eat. I see people being prejudice every day. Black white you name it. We live in a world where no one has any respect for each other, a life doesn't have any value anymore, people are judged by the possessions.

You can't separate economics from politics, they are the same thing. "We live in a world where no one has any respect for each other, a life doesn't have any value anymore, people are judged by the possessions." its always been this way. People only know of Genghis Khan because someone stole his wife.

I'm more wondering about voting against self interest. Maybe some form of Stockholm syndrome.
