Libertarianism is not about you.

Harry Browne wrote a book called, "How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World." It was very popular among Libertarians for its practical advice on how to live free in a society with pervasive government control.

Voluntarists today are coming up with novel ways for people to disconnect and liberate themselves from government control.

Agorism encourages people to engage in mutual trade without getting government (or even government-issued currency) involved.

These are all great, but they are not what Libertarianism and especially the Libertarian Party is about.

The Libertarian Party exists as a political organization not to show people how to escape from the cult of the omnipotent state, but to fight it. We will not rest until we achieve nothing less than a world set free in our lifetime.

There is a myth that Libertarians are just Republicans who want to smoke pot. Republicans smoke pot all the time. They tend to be white and affluent and unlikely to get caught and have their life ruined for doing so. They got theirs, so they're not worried about a policy that destroys entire communities of people who aren't like them.

Libertarians are dedicated to breaking down government control of people's lives, not for ourselves, but for others. Going off the grid and getting freedom for yourself is good, but fighting for the freedom of others is great.

Inside the Libertarian Party, there are those who want some government and those who want no government. They fight with each other because they think it's about them and what they want. It's not.

People want more freedom. More freedom to raise their families, run their businesses, and live their lives without government telling them how to do it. That is what it's about and the Libertarian Party is a diverse group of people working together to give them what they want.

Selfishness shouldn't be illegal, but it's not a virtue. A libertarian way of thinking is that you must take care of yourself first and foremost before you can effectively help others - but helping others is ESSENTIAL. Narcissism and solipsism are perversions of individualism.
