PSA: Do not send your Steem or SBD to Poloniex

in poloniex •  7 years ago

Both deposits and withdrawals for STEEM and SBD on Poloniex are not being processed since two days. Deposits are not being credited to your Poloniex account and withdrawals are not sent. Poloniex has had issues with the STEEM wallet before, but this time they don't even give us a warning. They should temporarily disable deposits and withdrawals as long as it doesn't work, but after two days they still haven't taken any action yet. There are reports that they don't respond to support tickets either.

As you can see on https://steemd.com/@poloniex many Steemians are still trying to deposit their STEEM on Poloniex. A total of 26,033 STEEM was transfered to Poloniex yesterday. Hopefully the amounts will be credited to the appropriate Poloniex accounts as soon as possible.

The latest withdrawal from Poloniex to a STEEM wallet was on 2017-12-06 09:42:36 UTC which was included in block 17,844,716. All withdrawals after this date are still on hold.

I would like to see STEEM added to more exchanges. Binance for example has 180 coins available to trade, but STEEM is still missing. Maybe we, as a community, should all ask them to add STEEM? I've just sent my request to [email protected].

I've sent 93SBD to those fuckers 3 days ago, opened 2 support tickets, and still nothing!
And they're actually blaming this on Steemit Inc. (call them SBD team, WTF?!)
They should be boycotted for this!

Agreed I have been having no issues with @blocktrades. Poloniex has stolen my steem for the last time. I'm done with the scammers!

I sent to SBD 5 days ago and now the portfolio is in maintenance due to the disparity in prices so that they are not arbitrated. The worst part is that you have to change your SBD there. You can not return them to another portfolio or pass them to Bittrex to sell at a higher price.

omg, this is horrible.. thanks god , my transfer to bittrex was fine!

Yes, congratulations because Bittrex proves once again that it is a good exchange. By the middle of the year, Poloniex had also presented problems, I thought they had already resolved completely, but apparently not. I hope my SBDs arrive soon!

@penguinpablo thanks for keeping the steemit community posted on this issue. This is a real action to save lots of steamians from loosing funds or having a long time to get them back.

Yesterday I had 2 issues with the ETH network, and only one was solved today. Waiting on Openledger-dex to help me with the other one. They are on maintenance now and can't credit the funds to my bitshares.org account until they finish this.

Yesterday BTC and ETH were bottlenecked and hundreds of thousands of transactions were on hold, because they can't delivery, and this is just the beginning. Perhaps this is one of the facts that explains the SBD rise and consequently STEEM, in addition to all the developments going on on Steem, and that the SMTs are on its way, and many other great developments such as @utopian-io that is disrupting the way opensource projects are funded.

Things are getting crazy on crypto now, and when the moment comes, the biggest transfer of wealth in world history will be in our eyes, when funds go from bitcoin and ehc, to the big 3 (bitshares, steem and eos). What amazing times we are living with crypto.

Upvoted!

Regards, @gold84

Good to see more attention being brought to this.. I posted about this last night to help too!

Issues being reported depositing to Poloniex

Ya I have some cash tied up there, kinda blows.

True story about the bottleneck, my ETH withdrawal was processed for 14 hours! But it might be arbitrage prevention...

Yeah second that thanks @penguinpablo - I used Coinbase to buy some STEEM and it worked fast.

But there is also amazing side to all of this - Kraken crashing, Poloniex being slow, CoinBase adding 100K accounts a day - we live in amazing time and should be patien and enjoy the ride heh!

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

thank you @penguinpablo I have been trying to get the word out for days now! I have no voice. Thank you.

Millions in Steem Being Held Hostage

Amounts held hostage:

18,223,151.331 STEEM
596,379.128 SBD

Total worth: about $40 million US dollar. OMG!

So, more value added to the rest of coin supply.

That is a positive way to look at it.

1/7 (about 14%) of all SBD ever created O_O

When I seen this a few days ago I tried getting the word out but people thought I was nuts. OMG is correct! This is beyond acceptable normal business practices. Just by a little lol...

You have got your voice :
) steemthat is backing you.

Notice people are flagging this post trying to hide the truth...Let's publish those names of the dishonest. I'll pull the data.

Here are the names of the flaggers trying to hide the truth.

@nextgencrypto, @ozchartart, @ngc, @berniesanders, @speakyourmind, @engagement, @thecyclist, @iflagtrash, @thedelegator, @danknugs, @theyeti, @thesloth, @randomthoughts

These people do not have your interest at heart.

I don't understand?

I wonder if they are stuck trying to do things by hand right now. No excuse for lack of communication, but I wonder if their automated service went down and they are scrambling to fix it.

Just use Bittrex.

Hasn't Bittrex had similar problems in the past?

I am honestly not sure, I have never had an issue with them personally.

I think I remember reading about it but now I'm worried that I might be spreading false info as I haven't used neither poloniex, nor bittrex myself.

Well, the good thing is you never said they did. xD Just asked the question.

There are a few people I know with 6000 Steem being held hostage and one guy 100k not deposited. It is huge once they hold your steem hostage.

That is absolutely ridiculous and there is no excuse for doing that with a lack of communication.

I've heard so many bad things about them that I'm slowly starting to withdraw whatever I have on my account with them.....

So I stopped using polo for a long time because of this, and then I fell for it again, now they are holding some of my sbd haha. Im really liking open ledger more and more.

Idk. Open ledger sounds quite complicated tbh. But I've been hearing so many good things about them that I actually want to give them a try.
I hope you don't have a lot of funds locked away on poloniex though! I have about 200 SBD locked up on bittrex too because they refuse to verify me. Bought them at $0.9 through eth and I just want to withdraw them now.... Doubt that's gonna happen so I've basically given up on those funds :/

have you tried just withdrawing a small amount at a time? As long as you stay below the threshold they should allow you to withdraw without a verification.

I'm barred from withdrawing anything until they verify me which I doubt will happen any time soon x_x

I guess until then, blocktrades will have to do!

At least its not going anywhere -_-

Yea they finally accepted my verification!
Unfortunately I missed out on the steem/sbd pump so I'll just wait for another pump before I convert them to steem again :/

Yay! Yes, sbd is a new favorite of mine :)
Polo finally credited my account as well but dealing with those exchanges is a caution.

@arthestically, The verification on bittrex is simple. I did mine under twenty minutes. They just require you upload a document; a passport or ID plus a selfie of you with said ID or passport wearing a different cloth from picture on ID. Within twenty minutes the whole process is over and I'm able to transfer out whatever I want.

No they wouldn't let me log in and emailed me to ask me to verify myself. Then they refused to verify me as they had "too many requests" -_-

In any case they have verified my information now though so all good :)

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

That is good to hear; I am glad they have fixed it.

I'll look into open ledger or any exchange that isn't stealing people's funds. Thanks for sharing.

They are trying to avoid arbitrage since SBD are worth 8.5$ on Poloniex while in HitBtc they are worth over 12,5$.

I have a withdrawal in pending for 10 hours...

Best post all day! Thank you!

so tired of the issues they have with some of these I don't understand what the hold up is all the time with them

This is like the 5th time it's happen. I honestly think in some way it is a price manipulation scheme because every time it happens there's a big price increase.

Poloniex has such a bad service. It seems they cant operate without breaking transactions of random coins every day.

are you sure this is poloniex related and not an issue with Steem scaling? Because I've seen people having problems with bittrex too.

Apart from steem scalling, poloniex disabled deposits and withdrawals of various coins before. On top of that they lock accounts, dont perform withdrawals (error status) and support doesnt answer for 6+ months. Be cautious when dealing with them.

It seems Shapeshift also has Steem as being temporarily unavailable.

If all exchanges are not trading steem but some people are able to trade and make a ton lf money. Why isn't everyone able to trade and make some money? Not cool steemit.

Not cool steemit?! Steemit has no power or direct connection to the exchange, so why would you blame them?

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

They could have blocked sending to the account at 2 million or 3 million. They are allowing users to get scammed by allowing transfers to go through to a place that after 4 days for many have had their funds stolen. I'm not drawing interest on my money anymore or able to trade it freely. This is theft and Steemit is facilitating the theft. Steemit should even issue a popup at this point that warns users. They have some obligation under international law to protect their users.

Some do not realize this. Think about almost every social media company you have ever done any business with or even a place where users can post content. If their is a known scam the website has an obligation to alert users of this scam. You might see notices from time to time like this:
"Please do not wire transfer money"
"Please do not give out your passwords via email."

In this case they should have a warning that says, "DO Not Send Funds To Poloniex"

They could have blocked sending to the account at 2 million or 3 million.

Could they? I though this was a decentralized system where nobody could block other people's transactions. I think you got that wrong actually.

They have some obligation under international law to protect their users.

Steemit is just one of many interfaces to the Steem blockchain. The blockchain is immutable and censorship-proof. This is one of its selling points and I'm surprised you are not aware of this. But it also has the corolary that there is no central authority to protect you from scammers. What we can do is raise awareness and try to protect people from being scammed.

Of course, steemit it could indeed implement popups that warn you about known scammers, but I think this will go against their decentralization ideals at least to an extent.

After the huge @bellyrub scandal and scam if you try to send to that account you see this:

"Use caution sending to this account. Please double check your spelling for possible phishing."

They at least red flag the account as a possible scam. There is nothing still after MILLIONS stolen by poloniex.

So I'm wrong and you are right. They are willing to do this and it should be done for this exchange. I guess they are afraid to alienate one of the few exchanges trading steem.

They are running a social media network no matter how they classify themselves as bogusly decentralized or centralized. They could drop the social media description I guess and that could then indemnify them from having an obligation to protect their users.

Since their self-described as a social media platform they have an obligation to protect their users against known scams. How they choose to do that is up to them. Inaction is not acceptable.

What's magic about social media that it places a higher burden of user protection that another type of website.

Don't got me wrong, I absolutely view this as a huge problem, I just don't expect them to act the way you are hoping and I see that they have their reasons. I'm not even saying their reasons are valid.

Whats happening ... thank U for the warning

you are appositely right, i was dealing with poloniex but i had Some difficulties.
with the same problem you toked about.
so i stooped exchange steem through them.

Yes u r right man i have sended my sbd in my poloniex wallet but i does not credited in my wallet till now !

Someone there need to wake up!
They make so much money, but lots stuff not working :(

@poloniex finally does something after stealing millions. They could easily refund back to the senders. My bot does that easily and they run an exchange this should be automated easily. Like 5 minutes or less. If their exchange is down that doesn't effect their Steem account which is holding the funds.

Issue a refund!

Here is their latest banner blaming it on Steemit! Sounds like a scam between the two parties to me!
whatascamsteemit.png

Bullshit, I've traded lots of SBD/STEEM with blocktrades, Poloniex is lying.

Those " criminals" owe me BTC since May and no answers to my tickets

seriously ?

YES !!!! It was around 850 Euro worth in May ....I am furious!!!!@poloniex

omg what the hell !

Check reddit/r/poloniexforum
They have a long history of stealing users coins.

So sad to hear @mammasitta

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

I have asked Binance to add STEEM through their application. It looks like they prefer application from core developer team, ask for tech support and probably some compensation. @penguinpablo we need to push @ned and his team to aggressively think about more exchanges. Same to Bitfinex. Also, STEEM needed to be added other top Korean exchanges Bithumb, Coincore, Korbit etc., in fact, STEEM is very popular among the Koreans.

Thanks for the advice! Now I understand why I was not receiving anything!

So, poloniex doesn't deposit.
Bitrex is in pocket with FBI and doesn't withdraw without id
Essentially we are left with decentralized exchanges only.

@bronevik I just withdraw litecoin from bittrex and no id is requested. What issues did you have from bittrex? @gold84

They just hold my account for withdraw until i send them id. With no apparent reason.

He could be from sanctioned country like Russia, Iran or smth

Bitfinex fine so far...

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

That's a little scary. Looks like a lot of people will not be using poloniex anymore. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers. RESTEEMED.

This is good to know. I personally use bittrex. Their wallet was down a couple days ago for maintenance, which isn't terribly uncommon. Makes me wonder what poliziex is up to, to be stalled for so long.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Always as the price SBD/Steem is high, poloniex creates problems with deposit/withdraw!

thanks for sharing

I actually think we're now seeing the dark underbelly of lack of provision from systems which were not designed to scale. Next generation exchanges like WCX will perform at lightspeed and I think that exchanges which successfully deal with ongoing wallet suspension issues will be the disruptors. That's pretty poor play from poloniex. they seem to have built a wall of silence around themselves and will undoubtedly lose business. Generally they are very fast for trading but they risk their reputation being so heavily tarnished with ineptitude and suspicion that that may fail to attract a significant proportion of new business. If that happens, they may disappear within the next couple of years. It's not like they don't have the money to invest in improvements ! having said all that, their system is much easier to use and suited to professional rather than hobbyist use, than some other exchanges which I won't mention here.

They might disappear in the next few days with about 40 Million (USD value estimate) just in Steem alone!

Yeah, seriously. How can they just steal from all of us and remain a currency exchange?

I'm not sure they're that dumb ! if that was steem dollars, perhaps :)

@penguinpablo If there was ever a need and/or time for Steemit to have pinned messages .... this would be it.

What a great idea pinned messages!

Let's together help steem to get it added on Binance as well as Bitfinex. Resteem this post so that more and more people become aware and send request to the exchanges.

Wow, it really sucks that they didn't even issue a warning. I bet a lot of people are trying to sell their SBD right now, so it's very unfortunate if it gets stuck in limbo on Poloniex for a while. The insane price might not even be there anymore once they are back..

Anyway, thanks for the warning!

Right, and it seems they might not ever even get it back.
and what about the block chain that is direclty connected to our steemit wallets?

That's terrible. I have never used them myself, but I do remember the same thing happening a year or so ago. At that time they all got their money back, but it took several months.

Again? I stopped using Poloniex since they had their first issue with steem. Plus there were a lot of other people complaining about them. It seems that their problems are not over.

What do you use now?

Bitrex for now. But I don't have time for trading that much lately.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

My afraid is that now we suffer a scam from @poloniex. @steemitblog and @steemdev, we need an answer about this issue. Help us! I lost 170 Steem.

So many have lost so much already with bellyrub and now millions in poloniex an exchange partner with Steemit. Very sad to see so much stolen!

I also experience the same when i use poloniex for trading but now i don't use poloniex anymore because they are cheaters and don't give any solution of our problems.

We need mores such posts of people warning the community about the issues with exchanges.. I am going to be writing one this week about a scam exchange in India..
We can't let scamsters ruin the trust in the community..
Good work @penguinpablo

Thank you for all the information@@@
I hope poloniex, and Binance gets there stuff together i have iota stuck on binance 8(

Before poloniex was a good exchange. Was! My account has been blocked just for nothing. But since I have no money I previously gave,I went with this exchange. And poloniex are not friends.

Same here. I didn't send much, but what I sent has yet to appear in my Polo wallet since yesterday. I know of others who are having the same issue.

Thank you very much, I was about to send some sbd for poloniex, I will vote you and follow you... Successes.

Yes, my deposit got stuck yesterday morning, but I thought it was a one time issue. I had raised a ticket yesterday but still have no response.

Let's just hope we'll get the coins refunded asap :(

Wow.... nice post ... acurality

thank you very much brother @penguinpablo, the information is very useful.

Thank you very much for informing the community about this.
I played with the thought to transfer SBD to poloniex but then I decided that I rather Convert my SBD into Steem because I want to strengthen up my account here.
But great reminder here! :)

I rather Convert my SBD into Steem

Better sell your SBD for Steem in the internal market: https://steemit.com/market. You get much more STEEM compared to converting right now :)

Yeah of course this is what I meant.
Thank you for correcting me :)

Thank you very much for the information. You have helped many people through posting information from you @penguinpablo. Good luck is always for you.

Wow..this is very helpfull
I was just now looking at the price difference between poloniex and bittrex and was going to send some eth to polo to buy sbd there and send it to bittrex

Thought it was too good to be true :(

Nice save

Thank you for the information!

thanks for informing those of us who are yet to send or receive through them.

Thank you @penguinpablo for a valuable update. Meantime I will try and look for another reliable exchange to use until Poloniex issues are resolved.

I'm hearing great things about bitshares

This is insane! I hope people don't lose out on their hard-earned Steem/SBD because Poloniex is messing up. This will make me avoid Poloniex in the future altogether and simply use Bittrex. I'd like to see Steem/SBD on Binance too.

Stop using polocrap, it's an unreliable pos, as demonstrated over and over again.

That's true. I never gotten the withdrawal till now that i made 3 weeks ago..

happened to me as well yesterday. I sent 0.5 SBD to polo to make sure it works before sending a bit more. The deposit never showed and now I am reading this. Thanks for letting everyone know. I created a ticket and will update this thread when I get something back, if I do.

Let's also keep in mind that good practice is to try a small amount, and only after you see it go through and post properly, do a larger one.

I am also waiting for my BTC Steem transaction to post on my steem wallet. that one I am more worried about cause it s larger.

yes it is true ..

Maybe something is wrong with the database and processing unit of the site, but glad for the warning

I agree steem should be listed on more exchanges, although do beware of binance they are not as great as people would have you believe. They do not reply to customers when there is a problem and they do suffer from problems, with withdrawing from wallets as well.

I asked them when they would list steem, this was the reply:-

"Hi ,please pay close attention to our business news ,once we have a plan we will update it in our announcement"

Though Bittrex is allowing transfers but sbd-btc, steem-btc conversions are not happening. I lost $40 in this process. The order shows as complete but the amount is still not received in the BTC wallet. Having more exchanges is not the solution if they don't know how to handle the unexpected traffic. Poloniex is already at top of my hate list. :)

Thank you for alerting us to this problem. It will save a lot of grief.

thank's for sharing @penguinpablo

I had the same problem yesterday, still not solved. Fortunately I sent only a small amount to test and I was right not to trust them!

@penguinpablo still not work ?

That's why we will see decentralized exchanges built on EOS coming out next year, which we won't have to trust a third-party with our money. @dan is creating something that will save us all. I've been very cautious whenever I dealt with Poloniex. You can check my account history, I usually sent a very small deposit first to check if they were working before sending out larger amounts. I started this after the whole June mess with them.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Thanks for getting the word out on this! Just tried a couple hours ago to make a test withdrawal from Polo. When transactions are open again on polo I will be moving all my Steem Away from that exchange for good!

Thanks for the update

Polo has always had issues with Steem. I learned my lesson the hard way.

Thanks for the heads up!

One of the problems for steem right now is that there are no truly reliable exchanges. There have been problems with all and we need a trustworthy one that is not going to lock your funds in there as it has happened before. The fact that they are prone to keeping silent and not replying when something like this happens is a hugered flag!

cheers buddy!

Those exchanges are operated by thieves! Descendants of bank robbers!

they will credited your wallets once the price is low because they already sold it in high price :)

great info @penguinpablo
i cannot agree more with you. i wonder why steem only trades in all those weired exchanges. i use hitbtc and i think there are exchanges steem can come into and have more visibility! even a new hot coin yet to come out of exchange like Elyte (www.elyte.io) is looking forward to using binance and hitbtc!
thanks for sharing this

Yet another reason for me to open a bitshares account..

With this massive amount held up I wonder has it affected the supply hence a big jump in evaluation. So many SBD not traded?

Thanks for the PSA, I wish I had seen that before.

Wish I’d heard about this a few days back. I’ve got a few Steem caught in the ether. Trying to diversify a bit more as Steem is over 50% or my alt coin holdings.

Thanks for this warning, I believe it will be useful for many users. Author of this post definitely deserves Upvote.

I will be aware for that. Thank you for the info :)

I'm going to make a publication about an exchange that is also a purse that is working very well with SBD and the speed in the transaction is very good.

Yeah, I deposited too, and there was no warning or block, just like it would work.

Most annoying things are Polo's silence and no reaction.
Deja vu. The same problem, the same behaviour as in summer 2017.

4 days ago I sent a big SBD number to poloniex 😞 But I realized, I did not get SBD in my wallet .. Did I lose all that money ?? I waited 4 days. .

Thank you for the update!

How is changelly ????

Yeah..i have traded 141 yesterday but still no reply.it was hardly earned sbd and i can't afford losing them.i just hope and pray i could still withdraw them because they were not in my wallet anymore...

Sent 4 Hours Before still waiting for deposit! Regreting why I did not came across your post!
