You have a good start with the concept of no alcohol. It is a very addictive and potentially life changing substance. Once a person has gotten alcohol out of the house and changed a few habits then it is normal to experience excessive energy and a desire to be healthy.
If however, an alcoholic thinks they can ever go back to drinking like a "normal" person then they are only fooling themselves.
Being sober is a conscious decision. Some people find it too difficult to handle life. Coping by using alcohol is the only way they know.
This is a journey that is only possible if you are dedicated to finding and perusing a new way of dealing with whatever life throws your way.
