This war was provoked by competition between the sultanate of Makassar, and the kingdom of bones that had the support of the Dutch VOC. spices from the Moluccas and tried to monopolize the trade also became the cause of Makassar. In this war the Sultanate of Makassar suffered defeat and was forced to sign the Bongaya agreement which was highly damaging to the Sultanate war of Makassar.
