Beetlehead

in portrait •  4 years ago
I was trying to figure out a new way to post my love of bugs without grossing everyone out. I think I might have made the bug haters, even more, squeamish.

9 x 12, mixed media paper, watercolor, and gouache

The adult body of Hercules Beetle sizes (not including the horn) vary between 50 and 85 mm (2.0 and 3.3 in) in length and 29 and 42 mm (1.1 and 7.7 in) in width, through male Hercules beetles may reach up to (7 inches) in length (including the horn) if jaws and or horns are included in the measurement. The size of this horn is naturally variable; more so than any variation of the size of legs, wings, or overall body size in the species. This variability results from developmental mechanisms that couple genetic predispositions with nutrition, stress, exposure to parasites, and/or physiological conditions (wiki).

@sheikh27, I don't know if I told you this, but drawing is my therapy...helps me deal with "the clown world" we all live with.

It is great to see this post. Welcome back. Look forward to more artwork.
