Boys in the hood: INDIA
India. Each day was filled with so many sensory experiences.. many have a love/hate relationship with the place. I have always loved my adventures through many a city in this country. I often felt each day was an assault on the senses. So much, so very much of everything to absorb & process.
But my heart has an incredible soft spot for India. My mother is from the south of India so whenever I have set foot in this country I feel a sense of home.
When I travelled through India last I had my old Minolta SLR camera. I loved the clunk when you pressed the button to take a photo, the winding of film, the shear weight of the camera itself. I never went anywhere without it despite it being essentially like carrying a brick in my bag!
This image, “boys in the hood” was taking whilst wandering the streets of Jodhpur.
My Canadian friend & I would always chat with locals, catch the local bus, find where the regular eateries were for them & eat there.
I guess we felt if were going to travel, we’d immerse ourselves in the culture & get amongst the people in an authentic way.
These boys were awesome. They were playing in the street & they just looked, well, interesting. The lighting where we were captured shadows on their faces giving off this air of mystery & I guess a level of “cool” from these boys who were not even 12 years old!
CAMERA: Minolta SRT 101, SLR.

This got my attention while strolling through my feed. Congrats for the portrait. It’s that kind of portrait that looks authentic even with filters on. 👍

It's a great shot isn't it, @vonaurolacu? Maryse didn't use filters. It is a completely authentic photo.
This photo was taken with a real analogue 35mm SLR film camera as she describes in her description.

Well that’s even more impressive :) I was sure that there is some digital effect for the high contrast and the sharp blacks and darks. Moreover, that “orange” tint tricked me :)) digital photography got my mind screwed up 😂

I know what you mean @vonaurolacu. All the digital tricks that can be achieved even with basic Instagram settings kinda steals the glory from those talented people that actually do it with real equipment.
I mean, I love using digital technology myself, it makes life easier and effects more accessible to the lat person, but I get impressed by this kind of photographic work done with an old-school camera.
