Portugal was always known for having lot's of fires, but what happened yesterday and is still happening is really disturbing.
Just 4 months ago, Portugal suffered a big tragedy: more then 60 people, children included, burnt and suffocated to dead on a Pedrógão Grande road. It was, must probably, a felony, along with global warming and the hot portuguese clime.
Yesterday, October 15th, all the portuguese had a dejavu, the same was happening again, but on a larger scale: half the country was on fire, it could be seen from space (NASA footage).
Over 6000 firefighters, 2000 fire trucks and 2 air assets weren't enough to avoid kilometers of destruction. Forests, cars and homes were all reduced to ashes in a few hours. But most importantly, 35 people, and counting, died in one of the worst ways possible. The situation is now under control, but there still lot's of fires happening.
To make it worst, much of this fires were felonies, because fire is a business.
I tried my best to exactje transmit what's happening, but it's really heard to know exact numbers.
