Positive thinking is one of the most discussed ideas right now. “Think positive” is the message that is often disseminated in many areas. This concept has become so popular that hundreds of books have been written on the subject. Seminars and workshops on "positive thinking" are held almost every day in different parts of the world. Thousands of people from various strata of society have participated in workshops and training programs on positive thinking.
Yet the fundamental question of whether positive thinking works has defied a conclusive answer. Empirical evidence can be produced by people to show that positive thinking has, in fact, transformed their lives. But, it cannot be conclusively shown that it was their thinking that gave them the results. And for every statement that supports positive thinking, there may be statements to the contrary from people who might have found that harboring positive thoughts did not benefit them.
So, can there be an answer to the question about the effectiveness of positive thinking? Unfortunately, this is unlikely to be the case. Believing in a certain way of thinking, practicing it and perceiving the results is a subjective experience. It is not like carrying out a scientific experiment to prove a theory. So, claims that positive thoughts will produce favorable results are bound to be questioned at least by some people forever.
So how will you know if the concept of positive thinking is working or not? There is only one way. You have to find out for yourself by practicing the concept. Resolve to consciously think positive for the next 90 days. Why 90 days? The period can be shorter or longer, but 90 days is a long enough period for you to observe the results and conclude whether the type of thinking you practice is bringing results or not.
It can be difficult to follow this diet because you are bound to be stricken with worries, disappointments, frustrations, etc. In all likelihood, by 90 days you will have cultivated a harmonious mind to think positively. You may have concluded that positive thinking is working or not. But in either case, you will have acquired a mind that has learned to think positively. Having a mind that can think positively in any situation is a great advantage.
