The 15th of January Always Feels Like the TRUE Start of the YearsteemCreated with Sketch.

For as long as I have been in the retail/art gallery business, January 15th has always felt like the true start of a new year.

Sure, the calendar changes over on January 1st, but the first two weeks for many businesses in some kind of "sales" tend to be given over to "mopping up after the holidays." Plus we're waiting for the "returns and exchanges" period to expire.

Art and the Holidays

Although a few people give art as a gift, we generally don't have that much of a busy season. It has changed a little bit since we changed the format of the gallery to a more "gifty" mix, but our busiest time remains the summer months when our town is filled with visitors from all parts of the country.

Is art a "risky" thing to give as a gift?

Most of the time, the art we see given as a gift are between people who know each other — and hence their tastes — really well: Parents and children, husbands and wives, and so on.

Occasionally, we sell a housewarming gift or two... and there art is definitely a very appropriate gift.

Back to Powering Up Again

It has been a turbulent time for us, at the Red Dragonfly.

Now that we have powered down extensively to use the money to pay some of our bills, I am going back to posting "100% Powered up" posts for a while. Except for our delegation to @sndbox we will pretty much have drained our Steem Power down to "beginner" level again.

On one level, that is a pretty sad state of affairs, on another... we're very grateful that the money was available, even if it didn't amount to all that much, given the broader decline in the crypto markets. But we're not giving up completely here... so we're going back to powering up our current rewards.

Thanks for reading, and "see" you next time!
