The recently concluded Powerball lottery held in the U.S.A. generated a record-breaking jackpot of $758.7 million, which was won by a lucky player from the Seattle suburb of King County. This is the largest jackpot in the history of the lottery, and the winner has not yet approached to claim the award. The winner purchased the ticket from a gas station in Clyde Slope on August 11, and claims he found out about the win barely a week ago!
According to lottery officials, the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are approximately one in 292 million. However, the player purchased a "Power Play" option, which multiplies the initial winning number by four. This meant that the lucky player's winning numbers were picked from a set worth between one and four billion. Clearly, it was a case of sheer luck!
It was estimated that the winning ticket was worth about $476 million after taxes, with the remainder being shared between the other winners in the draw. In addition to the jackpot winner, three players each won $1 million, while six other players won $100,000. In total, there were in excess of 12 million tickets that matched the first four numbers but not the Powerball number, so the number of winners from this draw is probably going to be much higher
