I've been looking for a place to cure my homemade soaps; cheaply. I have multiple shelving units I have picked up from garage sales and marketplace freebies; but none of them were what I was looking for.
But I did have an old shoes rack I had gotten on Marketplace last year that I had originally gotten for an extra place to dry herbs. But now that the gardening season has come to an end, I decided this was the perfect place to let all my homemade soaps continue to cure.
So I took the $3 shoe rack and added two sets ($1 each set) of cooling racks I had purchased at the Dollar Tree sometime ago and placed the cooling racks on the angled shoe rack shelves.
I had the soaps on the cooling racks already; just sitting on a folding table in the homestead room, but I constantly had to to move them over when I sat down to do some tasks. It became a nuisance and I knew I had to find a more proper home for them.
Having the cooling racks filled with soap off the table is such a welcomed relief.
Plus the way this new set-up works, it allows for circulation from all sides of the soap; no need to rotate or flip the soap bars.
Reasons To Allow Homemade Soap To Cure Properly
- The lather is richer
- The bars will last longer
- The soap becomes milder with age (namely the cold or hot processed soaps made from lye)
- For the ultimate saponification process time
According to AZ SOAP Works and cure time:
Saponification is the process of oils and fats combining to become soap. Within 24-48 hours, the saponification process has occurred. But it will take anywhere from six weeks to a year to be the best soap it can be
Even when I make Melt & Pour soaps, I allow it to cure for at the minimum of one month.

Wow that's so cool :) What kind of ingredients did you add for scent or effect?
It looks like some sort of oatmeal soap :P
