Book Smarts VS Street Smarts

in powerhousecreatives •  5 years ago

I am definitely a street smarts girl... the academics of things simply never interested me. I have always been a hands on learner... put me in the space and I will "wing it". I have also found that I learn more this way because it requires action... which one are you and why?

100% a street smart. I get good grades in school but i dont remember anything i learn in school. I enjoy the street smart side because like you said it requires action

I hear you. It's not about a lack of intelligence re. The academics, just lack of interest. I can't remember a damn thing from school that is useful to me today... but I remember every SINGLE hands on experience I have been exposed to and I have learnt and grown from each and every one.

I have both, I've seen way more scams involving formal education. You can't get scammed in street education without learning something.

Too true!!!!

Can you wing building a project like STEEM without an academic education ? You need to be both, street smart and book smart.

Some of the world's greatest minds are street smarts. #justsaying ;) and no... I completely disagree.

Little bit of both but not exceptionally well in either lol

Little bit of both
But not exceptionally
Well in either lol

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

hahaha!! Don't undersell yourself ;)

Your writing was short but very precise and I loved it, totally in agreement with you, sometimes I feel that at school they do not teach us important things, they waste a lot of time teaching us things that in the working world are not necessary. So I support that of educating myself and reading and learning things that I find interesting.

Thank you and yes I completely agree with you!

That quote is so true and I believe formal education can be corrected to involve real informal knowledge, as you said informal education brings real knowledge. Formal education only give certificate, just that

That is exactly what is needed - PRACTICAL, RELEVANT education systems.

O how I wish more parents will realize this - Johnny got 90% - well done but can he think for himself? No because he is more worried about studying like a parrot than actually thinking for himself. And then the best a mom freaking out because I did not talk the whole period and the kid had to do own research and reading....... sorry mam I am not a babysitter, I am a teacher and one that believes there is more to life than what we learn in books.
My main mission is to raise kids to think outside the box even if some parents are still stuck in a rut - My kids hear this every day............ think for yourself, figure things out bla bla bla

Johnny got 90% - well done but can he think for himself?

HAHAHAHA!!! Well said! and OH SO TRUE!!!!!

Street smarts together with a keen intelligence and an enquiring mind - that's what you have @jaynie - in spades. Those and a hefty dose of spunk. What a combination!

I have a bit of the school learning - didn't venture further although I was encouraged to. I think there is a third element or fifth, not sure, I lost count: not being scared to risk. It also, I think, depends on your definition of success.... #justsaying

Ha! You are too kind... but still win compliment of the day lol.
oh yes definitely and for the most part, I think people's definition of that is skewed.

Both. I was a bookworm in school, Straight A student. Magna cum laude graduate from college. But my best education has been from the School of Hard Knocks.

Love the way you put that! And yes, I do think that the best lessons, knowledge and life experience come from LIFE ITSELF.
