As many of you may be aware of the fact that South Africa has an electricity crisis, it is amazing just how people learn to cope with this situation.
We are subjected to "load shedding" - (no power at all) every day, twice a day, for periods of two and a half hours and in some areas four hours, this is at stage 2.
We have 8 stages and heaven forbid that we go there as that would mean no power four times a day i.e. fifteen hours a day with no power!
We are told that it is going to take at least 18 months to try and fix this - well that is o.k. so long as the problem is fixed properly.
However, it is very disruptive trying to work and function when every day the load shedding times are changed.
This happened to me yesterday when I was having my evening art class.
I advised my students that there would be no power and should they wish to still come, they could come earlier if possible so as to at least have some day light hours in which to work.
Well, they all came, and the first hour was fine, but eventually it was completely dark and so we switched on some lanterns.
This situation was quite hilarious and for the remaining two hours we carried on with much laughter.
I could not resist taking a couple of photos - hope you enjoy them too!
