Protecting our Leopard Toad

Here in the Cape, the Cape Leopard Toad is protected as it faces extinction.
This beautiful creature is much larger than other toads and gets its name from its lovely markings.

My daughter lives in an area where there is a canal that runs through the area and is an ideal place for these toads as it is a sort of wetland area which they thrive in.
As a result of this, Jaynie (@Jaynie) is lucky enough to have the Cape Leopard toads visit her garden frequently and they will often appear right by your feet when sitting outside.

This happened the other night and we were lucky enough to see two of them in the garden.

There are various awareness campaigns here in the Cape to protect the toads - volunteers are often seen escourting these toads across busy roads.
The wonderful people of the Cape are very protective over the toads and warn visitors to be aware that they are protected.

This one was camera shy and jumped into the plants.

This one was happy to have his photo taken.
