Strawberry Picking! {Spring 2019 First Edition}

IMG_20190416_112658581_HDR.jpg

A very happy Tuesday to you my friends! I had the best morning picking strawberries with @dksart, so couldn't wait to share with you all. I think I shouted it from the rooftops to everyone who would listen because this really is one of my favorite Spring traditions! We were blessed with the absolute perfect day here to get outside, as well. I don't think I even broke a sweat while crouching down and loading up our buckets with these juicy gems.

IMG_20190416_102800819_HDR.jpg

We went to the same farm as we have been going to for the past few years. Southern Belle Farm is only about an hour away from us, so it's not too challenging to make it down there. Especially when you are lucky enough to go during the day when Atlanta traffic isn't too daunting.

IMG_20190416_103121175.jpg

The farm grows other berries and peaches, in addition to some vegetables that they sell in their market during the summer. You can see some of the peach trees in the picture above. Yep, I shared a post about peach-picking last year, too. What can I say, I love fruit!

IMG_20190416_103527747_HDR.jpg

Though the parking lot was packed, most of the fields were quiet and peaceful. Most of the cars and buses were there with field trips. While we were picking the tractors kept coming around loaded up with kids learning about the farm!

IMG_20190416_105030651_HDR.jpg

I love seeing all of the pretty little blossoms. With as many berries as were already ready, there are tons more waiting to come along! The ones we got today are not super sweet since it is still early in the season, but I think they are delicious. Nothing beats picking them straight from the plant and putting a sun-warmed strawberry right in your mouth!

IMG_20190416_103951596.jpg

No shame in testing the merchandise before you buy it, right? 😉 Picking gets you a pretty good little workout, too, so no need to hit the gym today....

IMG_20190416_114055486_HDR.jpg

We picked 4 gallon-sized buckets for this first visit, so now it's time to figure out what I want to make! Luckily all my favorite foodies like @lenasveganliving, @proanima, @birdsinparadise, @lizelle, @puravidaville, @thekitchenfairy and so many others have great ideas for me! Wish I could share with you ladies!

IMG_20190416_131528915_BURST000_COVER_TOP.jpg

Don't worry, I'll be going back again before the season is out. I am ruined for store-bought strawberries now, so I like to load up the freezer while I can. Besides the delicious berries, it is just a wonderful way to spend a day--getting dirty, actually working for your food, and spending time in nature! Doesn't get a whole lot better than that!

IMG_20190416_120324408.jpg

And though @old-guy-photos isn't a stickler, here's an extra tree for #treetuesday!

While we're sleeping here on the other side of the world, you're out Strawberry picking, what beauties, and your photos are gorgeous too!
Thank you for tagging me, that cashew cream of @ lenasveganliving sounds so delicious, I would make a Strawberry Trifle with that! I did make a Strawberry Salsa last season of Cookwithus, and it was really refreshing!
Wish I could have smelt that jam you're cooking up, enjoy the Strawberries!

Oooh, strawberry salsa sounds good. I made strawberry BBQ sauce last year for one of the cookwithus rounds, so I'll definitely be making some of that again, too. Lena is a master with that cashew cream, so you might be on to something for Easter dessert...😊

Well that really is a berry nice post :) I love the look of those berries! They even look sweet! Glad you posted to the tag.

Well thank you! It's easy snapping nice shots when you have such lovely subjects, right? I'm happy to share some of these lovely Georgia trees and other greenery. Now I suppose I'm going to have to keep @dswigle from being jealous and jump back in #marketfriday one of these weeks, too...😉

Yes!!! Although, I harbor no jealousy. I know how busy you are! ;)

I was just teasing! I don't think you have a jealous bone in you!

Pffft you just better get a Market Friday up and not test her hahaha! Oh and don't forget to drop the link on her page or she will give you the lecture lol @dswigle

Haha, I will do my best! I have a post in my head ready to go, it's just getting it down in writing that's the challenge...

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

Oh, you know I love when you talk #MarketFriday talk! ;) @plantstoplanks

Haha, well I think I might not get to see my little niece tomorrow (don't worry, I'll see her on Easter), so don't get your hopes up but there's a small chance I might make an appearance...

You only know because you get the lecture every week, lately. LOL @old-guy-photos

tip

Yes but you know I only do it to keep you sharp. You know kind of like a fine race horse, you cant just keep him in a stall, you got to get him out and run him a bit...I cant have you getting rusty now :p ;D

TIP

hahahaha

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

Pffft! Old man, you don't even KNOW how to tip! behave. A horse? Oh, my... tell me more. This is about to get interesting. @old-guy-photos

Wait!!! Ummmm... Check out this one! I'm pretty sure it might be! ;)

Wonderful :) I am so looking forward to the strawberry-season!

It's a wonderful time of year! I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. :)

The strawberries look so cute🤣

Posted using Partiko Android

Some of them were huge! But still cute, haha. 😜

Wow, what a beautiful harvest! Yes, you are definitely a long way south; makes me wax nostalgic for my years of living in Texas where you could also start harvesting things in spring. Here in the Great Northwest we'll be looking at mid- to late June before the strawberries are close to fully red and ripe.

Aren't they just so lovely? I love being able to get out there so early in the season when everything is so fresh and vibrant! By the end of May or beginning of June these beauties will be on their way out as the summer heat hits with full force.

Mmm, I bet strawberry cake would be delicious...Thanks @helpiecake and @veryspider!

I thought it was too early for strawberries when I saw your post and then I read that they are not yet very sweet. I can imagine that :) BUT it looks like it was very hot that day - at least judging based on your outfit :) I wish it was this warm here.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you're going to make with them. I'm sure that you will do your magic and create something super delicious :)

Now I can't wait for the strawberry season here :) Just a couple of weeks...

Have a lovely day!

Yep, not too sweet yet but still utterly delicious! They are nice and firm this early, too, so easier to work with in some ways. We will definitely be going back for the really sweet ones soon, though. The sun was really warm, but the air was still slightly cool so I was perfectly comfortable in shorts and a tank top. Especially getting down in the dirt and earning my berries. ;)

Glad you've finished your exam so hopefully now you can get out and enjoy the season more!

Many thanks my most fantastic social media power house!

This is unbelievable Katie, wow! Thanks for tagging me; I just realized that you mentioned it in your email, but I forgot to respond because I was so focused on FAVM.

Anyway, I also looked at the map to see how far south you are from Toronto and now I understand how it is possible for you to go strawberry picking so soon, while we don't even have a sign of first flowers. Except in a supermarket, lol. You took beautiful photos and the strawberries look absolutely heavenly. And if you need suggestions for recipes, than I would say, some tall parfaits with cashew cream, chocolate and granola, also crapes or pancakes and of course nice cream, lol 🍓😍🍓

Yep, I'm a good long way South! Definitely one of the perks is early berries. All of your suggestions sound delicious! I think I need to go back through your recipes for that cashew cream...😋

Posted using Partiko Android

I have lots of cashew cream recipes, however, non is just single recipe for it. But I can write it for you. It is very simple. All you need is 1 cup of cashews, soaked for at least 4 hours and rinsed; 1/4 cup fat canned coconut milk; 1tsp pure vanilla extract and maple syrup to taste. Blend in a blender util smooth. You can even add cacao powder if you like. It may get thicker, so add some more milk. Enjoy your strawberries my Dear, I wish I could teleport myself, lol. 🍓😍🍓

Ooh yum, thank you for that! Might have to do something sweet for Easter with the family. I wish you could teleport, too! I got plenty to share. 😉

Posted using Partiko Android

I know, that would be awesome..........it's my pleasure. Make sure you take pictures of all your goodies. Happy Easter 😉

dude!

hahaha earlier when i saw on your IG, i hurriedly message a farm I know. but of course, way too early for us up north hahahah she said JULY lol

and i was like whaaaa....Katie is so lucky lololol

what kind of question is this...for sure strawberry PIE :P come on now :P

or jam :P

Sorry to get you so excited! 😂 If it makes you feel any better the season will be long gone here by July. At least we'll have peaches then, though.

Already got chia jam going and a batch of muffins in the oven!

Posted using Partiko Android

Oh, yummy!! You sure hit the sweet spot!! Is there anything quite as delectable as the aroma of a cooking strawberry or a freshly picked one that is in your car, the smell wafting throughout?

No!!!!

There really is a huge difference in seasonal pickings, isn't there? North Carolina is in season too, but, Virginia is almost there, but, not quite. Soonish!

I love your post and yes!! The peaches can't arrive soon enough for me. Oh, the u-[icks have ruined it for me... unless it is being picked out of my property! :)

Thank you for the preview! I have some in my freezer from a Florida trip!! :)

!tip

Oh the car smelled divine driving home! The haul was in the hatchback with the sun shining in keeping them warm and fragrant. So delicious!

I'm excited for the blackberries, as well. They usually come in between the strawberries and the peaches, so I have a good fruity bridge between the two seasons! I am definitely filling up the freezer again this year! I made it until about January before depleting all of my stores from last year. I think that means I need to get even more this season... ;)

🎁 Hi @plantstoplanks! You have received 0.1 SBD tip from @dswigle!

@dswigle wrote lately about: Tree Tuesday Spring To Life Feel free to follow @dswigle if you like it :)

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide :)

wow yummy, wow, here the harvest starts in June, I have to wait some time.

I think we'll be into blackberries and blueberries by then, but I enjoy those just as well!

😘

Wow! Glad I could find space here for a comment.
Strawberries are always a winner and I am afraid that I don't like them when they are sour. Funny thing about me, as I like lemon juice.
But nothing can beat a sweet strawberry, except maybe a Mango.
A great post here my friend!
Blessings!

I do have to say I prefer them nice and sweet, too, but generally enjoy them all! I'm actually going to do a trifle for Easter dessert with lemon pound cake in the layers!

Kind of funny to come inside and see you comment as I was just thinking about your great photography. I just saw the owl that lives back in our woods swooping through the trees and wished I had my boyfriend's camera handy! He/She is absolutely magical to watch! One of the biggest owls I've ever seen!

Oh my! I would wait for that owl for days. Best is to get them in flight, although the one time I caught one on camera that was sleeping in a large tree next to the apple farm where we used to live. But I wouldn't scare him to fly, as they need their sleep, so I only made a soft noise to get him to open those beautiful large yellow eyes. What a shot!
We also heard one here in the town, but we are new here and I don't yet know the lie of the land.
Thank you for the kind word about my photography and your posts are also great!
Blessings!
Btw! Lemon cake is my favorite!

We saw him weeks ago, but this is the first time I have seen him since then! My boyfriend caught this shot that I think I shared at the time of him from below. We were both surprised to see him out during the day!

Always an honor! Thank you!

Oh my God, this is so sweet. I love the idea of picking strawberries, peaches, and apples. I feel like there would be some dope background music while picking if this were a movie scene. Did you say you picked 4 gallons? Talk about strawberry heaven. I can’t wait to taste that strawberry short cake you said you were going to make… because I’m flying in, staying with you, and gobbling up all of those delicious strawberries. Sorry @dksart. I’m sure @dandays wouldn’t mind some company while I’m gone ::wink:: ::wink:: I just realized that wink wink looks like I’m insinuating something else but I’m not, I swear. Apparently you’re making short cake too, Incase you were wondering @plantstoplanks. Haha

When you come to CR I’ll take you to the farmers market with the spice guy… he’ll be a lot warmer with you since I’ve had several months to work on him. Haha

Love love love this post. Ps. Tell your boyfriend to stop rooting for the nightwalkers take over… I feel like he’s jinxing it 😝

Don't threaten me with a good time--come on up! 😉 I could still use some help working on the rest of these strawberries, haha. The good thing about going early in the season at least is that they do hold up a little bit longer than the ones later in the season, so at least I've got some time to enjoy them fresh, put them in some delicious meals, and freeze the rest before they start getting mushy. If the farm was just a little bit closer I would totally be there every week to keep my fresh ones stockpiled!

The boys probably would actually be a good match since it seems like @dandays is working on his editing skills (yes, I did read his latest post, but haven't commented yet...😉), and @dksart is pretty darn good on that end of things. Only if we swap places afterwards and they come back up here so I can go make friends with the spice guy!

Do you know how pissed he's going to be if the Night King doesn't win in the end? I'm still over here rooting for my girl Arya, though I would love to see Tormund get his wish to make big babies with Brienne. 🤷‍♀️

Haha 🤣🤣🤣🤣. What a turd!! Of course I want Jon snow and the dragon queen to win but that’s probably most of the viewers. Do you ever think what type of programming they are sneaking into our GOT? I mean this season I saw so much excitement over the first episode it got me thinking “what messages are they sending to us to prepare us for whatever crap is coming next”. Then again I’m a conspiracy theorist so pay no mind to me. Haha

If you did come down (@dksart is welcome too) you’d meet a lot more than the spice guy. There’s so much awesomeness here and I’d actually love the visit.

Ooh, ooh, strawberry scones or biscuits sound like a coming future recipe. I’m going to be working on using up my blueberries today… scones and biscuits are on the table for ideas. 🤓

Oooh, call me greedy but I can't wait for the rest of the berries to pop up, too. I keep missing blueberry picking, but by golly I'm going to make it this year. We have been lucky to get blackberries, though. They're all just so darn delicious. Didn't @birdsinparadise do some yummy scones recently?

I'm still annoyed he hasn't put out the latest GOT book. Yep, I was one of the readers before I was a watcher. I think Dave wanted to smack me the second season because I kept getting frustrated that it didn't follow right with the book, haha! I mean I guess it's nice not knowing the ending, but still I enjoyed the books just as much as the show.

Haha… that’s funny because I discovered the true blood books before the series came out on hbo. Do you remember that one? I’ve always had an affinity for vampires 🤦🏼‍♀️ It is somewhat frustrating when the show/movie doesn’t translate exactly but then I think it’s frustrating when it does too. Haha.

I got frozen blueberries in Panama two weeks ago and now that we are leaving next week I need to use them up. I have blueberry pineapple coffee cake in the oven as speak. Gluten free, vegan, and going to be totally delicious. 😋. I’m serving some to our neighbor so hopefully he’ll be convinced shortly that not all vegan gluten free desserts suck! 😝.

I’m sure Mrs. bird has made that berry scone. She is such a creator :)

I read the True Blood books, too! Funny that just last night @foxyspirit and I were talking about Twilight and how though the movies are silly, there is some great music on the soundtracks, haha. I love vampire books, too. Always enjoyed Anne Rice and her creations. Nothing sparkly there. 😉

I can just about smell that coffee cake from here! I just finished another batch of strawberries to pop in the freezer for later goodies, but hoping I have a little more time tomorrow to bake some more now. 😊

Whatever do you mean you just finished another batch of strawberries for freezing? What did you make? Anything fresh berry and I’m in 😋. Yep, I think I just finsished my recipe for @foodfightfriday. I haven’t put a recipe in so long so it’s about time, plus this coffee cake turned out delicious.

I read the twilight books in about a week. They had me captivated, then the movies had me embarrassed. Haha… I didn’t want to admit that I read and loved all of the books. Right now I’m reading the Debrah Harkness trilogy’s second book “discovery of night”. You’d love them, I’m sure of it. She has two others after the three that are vampire but with different characters…

Nothing fancy on the frozen ones so far. I just washed, hulled and halved them. Then I lay them out on a baking sheet to freeze so they don't all clump together. It takes a little longer since I can only do so much at a time but makes it easier to pull out however much I need later on down the line than just tossing them all in a bag to start and having it freeze into one big mass of berries. :)

Your coffee cake looked totally awesome! Well worth the share for all of us who may eventually try to recreate it since we're not lucky enough to be your neighbor.

Thanks for the book recommendation! I'm in the market for some new good books to read. I like a good series, too. Though I always get kind of sad when I get to the end and have to say good-bye to the characters I've come to love. :)

Anne Rice! :D Loved her books :)

MMMM strawberries! Makes me happy and also sad. C'mon winter... go away!

Many thanks for the surprise upon waking up this morning!

Those are some early strawberries... Ours come out and ripen in May.

Yep, it's one of the perks of being in this part of the USA. We get a nice early spring, though summers can be quite brutal to balance it out, haha!

Those are some beauties, I live 30 minutes from Poteet, The Strawberry Capital of Texas 🇨🇱

Posted using Partiko Android

Oh nice! When does the season start there?

The Poteet Strawberry Festival was April 5th-7th, so they must start picking sometime before that.

Posted using Partiko Android

This is so beautiful! I would love go a pick strawberries like this. They look so yummy. The day looked amazing, I can tell from here you had a blast. It's a beautiful tradition to do. How many blessings

Posted using Partiko Android

Thank you! It really could not have been a nicer day! I love seeing all of the field trips with the little ones or families carrying on the tradition. I remember going picking with my grandfather when I was a child, so it still holds a special place in my heart.

Looks awesome. I have family members who like picking fruits and can even earn pocket money or a nice working travel. As for myself I am skeptical of monoculture and non-organic farming.

Posted using Partiko Android

I definitely get you on your skepticism. I try to do my best to make good choices about where I'm buying my foods, which is why I adore going to my farmers market and supporting the local farmers (most of which use sustainable farming practices). We did notice they rotated out fields this year as we picked strawberries in a different spot this time around, so that was good to see. I also figure supporting a smaller local farm when food is in season is a whole lot better than buying from the mega-conglomerates sold in the grocery store, as well! :)

I never seen strawberries so fresh. And you got so good farm around....would love to take visit all along.

Posted using Partiko Android

Right from the bush! I would love to try getting some going in our own yard some day, but until then it is nice to have a place close enough to enjoy!

Happy to see bright colour on your post. What a beautiful strawberry 🍓

Posted using Partiko Android

So much color and energy, I couldn't help but share with you all!

They look amazing and such a beautiful day too. Enjoy making lots of different dishes with all that!

Gaz

Posted using Partiko Android

Thanks Gaz! Enjoying a bowl with my breakfast right now. 🥣😉

okay, so now I am sitting here salivating over those strawberries in the cooler...wow!!! I can't wait to see what you 'll make with those :) So many options, woohoo! Love this my friend, wish could be with you in that field, and I did notice those peach trees too! I have a peach chutney I would really like to make!

I wish I could call on all of you to come join me in the kitchen now, too! I always get so excited picking that I forget how much work it is when I bring them home, haha! All worth it for delicious berry goodies. My extra freezer is almost empty, so I've got plenty of room to store what I can't get to right away. 😊

Posted using Partiko Android

They look fantastic! Always taste best when they are picked and eaten quickly! I don't know (don't want to know) what they do to strawberries that are for sale in supermarkets. The ones you pick yourself don't last very long (and have to be eaten or made into jam, quickly). Bit early for us, here in Central France for strawberries

Posted using Partiko Android

Thanks! Isn't nature just stunning? She provides for us perfectly when we let her. Even these early season berries have so much more flavor than what you can get in the store. The good thing is these are lasting a little bit longer than the really ripe ones later in the season do, so I'm able to take my time processing them. Thank goodness because 4 gallons is a lot to go through! Makes me appreciate the hard work that people had to do before grocery stores and restaurants were so prevalent. I think the process makes you enjoy the food that much more, though!

I'm not overreacting, I swear! This are the juiciest strawberries I've ever seen. Regards!

Haha, we kept going down the aisle saying "Look at this one!" then "Wow, how about this one?!" as we kept picking so many gorgeous berries. Though I tend to enjoy the gnarly ones a bit, too, so we got plenty of those, as well. :)

We're just seeing the first hints of spring in NH, so seeing these AMAZING photos hurt my brain, knowing you're only about a day's drive away from here! What an awesomesauce way to spend your day, and...

via GIPHY

Also, as I was looking for a gif to use for the above congrats, I found this one, and couldn't resist including it as well... 😂 😊

via GIPHY

Hopefully your real spring is just around the corner! I love both of these, but the squats are quite appropriate, haha!

I can't wait for our strawberries - we have some plants to replace the ones lost in the drought. Strawberries are also great in a salad with balsamic vinegar.....

There really isn't a bad way to eat them, right? I had a bowl yesterday drizzled in chocolate balsamic vinegar. So good! I hope the drought stays away for your next round of plants!

Chocolate balsamic vinegar? You have my mouth watering! Never heard of it, but makes me think about the balsamic reduction in the cupboard that needs using.

Posted using Partiko Android

Oh man, the chocolate is excellent reduced down and put over ice cream! Which makes me think strawberry nice cream is on the menu for the weekend...

Lovely photos. I used to pick them for money in the 70s, but theses days I just eat them for pleasure...

Wow, that is definitely tough labor! As much as I work out, I still get sore in different places if we stay out there for any length of time. Well worth the effort though!

I love, love, love strawberries. That is a lot of them too.
A couple of years ago I watched youtube and convinced my husband we could grow strawberries like this girl on youtube. Needless to say it did not work out. I think it was the way we planted them.

I would feel greedy getting so many, but there were soooo many out there ripening up. We missed the buy 2 get one free deal last week that they did to try to make sure they didn't have a bunch rotting on the bushes. I'm keeping an eye out to see if they do it again soon so I can go back for even more. I've never tried growing them, but I would imagine it can be challenging! We have some wild blackberries coming up again in the back yard, but last year the birds ate them all before we could get to them.

Put a cage around those blackberries...delish

Yay! My daughter loves your vegetarian posts and is going to really enjoy this one. Unfortunately, she is allergic to strawberries and hates that so much. I bet she would really love to pick that many. It will be a couple months before we can do that around here and hopefully they come up in our back yard again where we planted them.

Posted using Partiko iOS

Aww, so glad she enjoys what I share! I'm so sad for her that she can't have strawberries, though! My older sister has quite a few food sensitivities (garlic, onions, and even some fruit and nuts, too), so I know that can be frustrating--especially eating out. I hope yours pop up so the rest of you can enjoy them. We'll be going back for blackberries and peaches, too, so I will be sharing those when the time comes around. :)

Love the red roof homestead photo with tree for and end to the day out.

Those strawberries look so good, fresh is best, now to make strawberry yogurt, yummy! Strawberry anything is scrumptious delicious in my book.

Thanks Joan! It really is a lovely place to spend time. Especially on such a nice day. I got my tree therapy for sure! ;)

Lovely source of nutrition, strawberry fields forever.

Amen to that! :)

Waoh! They are beautiful!

Posted using Partiko Android

Thanks! I'm glad everyone else agrees because I thought they were just stunning to look at, and of course to eat. :)

Oh those look delish! @andiekins had chickens get into hers last weekend. However, they were able to harvest a few. I love strawberries and can't wait to get some!
Ren

Oh no! I would be so upset if that happened to me! Glad they were still able to get some from those naughty chickens. My boyfriend's mom was trying her hardest to get a blueberry bush to grow, but every time it started producing the birds and rabbits would devour all the berries within a day! She finally gave up. At least we've got quite a few places to go picking around here, so we'll generally never want for all types of berries in the season!

We got 2.5 pounds on Friday! :) Those naughty chickens beeline for the berries as soon as they are out of the run.

Woot! I didn't realize it was strawberry season already. That's awesome! I don't think it has hit in Ohio yet though...

#powerhousecreatives

Yeah, we're a bit ahead down here. I think I might have made a few people green (red?) with envy, haha. Your time will come though, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I am now!

I surely will. I am just now preparing my garden for seeds. I've got a few things started indoors as of yesterday. Yummy veggies are on the horizon - the distant horizon.

Berrylicious!😀🍓🍓🍓🍓

Posted using Partiko Android

Indeed! :)

Mmmm I love strawberries! I've got a bunch of strawberry plants in my garden. And they have blossoms, but no strawberries yet! I can't wait to get some. lol.

Ooh, if you've got blossoms hopefully that means the fruit isn't far behind! I think I need to talk my boyfriend into trying to grow some of our own next year, too. A neighbor of his parents offered us up some transplants because her bushes exploded last year, but we didn't make it up to her in time.

wow never knew strawberry grows on little beautiful flowers.

Those look amazing. I am drooling.

I can assure you they are, haha! We are enjoying working our way through the haul. :)

Look at those strawberries!!!! Oh so red, and big! I bet they are just so tasty even if they aren't too sweet just yet. They'd be good with other things that are sweet. Another 3-4 months and I will be picking too :p

They've even gotten deeper in color after sitting for a few days! So good. My boyfriend took some pictures of them with his camera after bringing them home, but I haven't seen them yet. I'm making a strawberry trifle for dessert on Sunday, so I'm hoping it comes out well since I've never made one before! At least I borrowed a pretty serving dish from a friend so it should help make it look good. ;) I hope you can at the very least get done with the snow soon!

Tell him hurry up! :P

Would love to see what your strawberry trifle will look like. I can just imagine. MMMMM Yum.

Yeah the snow is going, its good that it's not too fast so that we don't flood in the basement.

How delicious - I love me some fresh strawberries! I have a little patch in my back yard, and they do spoil you for store bought strawberries.

Even better to have them so close at hand! They really do taste so much better. I had the same epiphany with tomatoes years ago after not liking them most of my life.

I love picking strawberries. I take my family every year to a local farm and we pick enough to get us through to the next year. It's a great outing. A couple of hours of picking fun, then ice cream. :-)

Such a fun thing to do with the family! I really want to try to bring my niece some time soon, but if not strawberries then we also go for peaches and apples. I picked enough last year to last through January in the freezer, so I think I need to get a few more gallons this year to make it to the next season. ;)

@plantstoplanks,

Looks delicious ... and great pics. These food blogs, though, always make me hungry (poets are a suggestible lot). And so ... off to the kitchen. :-)

Well there's no greater compliment to a foodie than to make anyone (even you poets) hungry upon perusing your post. I hope you found something to fuel your next literary endeavors. 😉

That is a very healthy looking farm and a very hearty looking haul you got there!

I always loved doing the self pick with my mother when I was a kid, so many grand memories ❤️

I have fond memories of going picking with my grandfather as a kid. He died when I was 7, so that is one of the only really potent memories I have of him. I always think of him when we go now. My dad said he always used to be amazed at how long he would stay out there to fill up the entire trunk before he left the fields!

It was obviously very enjoyable for him, I can imagine him being proud to see you following his foot steps ❤️

I miss strawberries and strawberry picking so much! It looks like you had a fun day :-)

You may not want to check out too many of my posts during your SIBO diet! It's kind of cruel to have to look at food posts when you can't enjoy them, but perhaps on the other hand it will give you something to look forward to at the end of the tunnel!
