Jesus, as recounted in the Gospel of Saint Luke, raised the son of the widow of Nain. And this is so because as Jesus taught: "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die" John 11:25.
Jesus is the personification of the perfections of God, that is to say, he is the "son of man", and in him is the gift of restoring life to men when they seek his mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness), and this has a double meaning, either restoring life to the soul through the spiritual gift of eternal life, or restoring life to the body through the resurrection.
Our Lord Jesus, more than resurrecting, revived the son of the widow, because resurrecting means reviving to never die, in strict terms only Jesus defeated death according to the Bible; but beyond, this with this incredible miracle, Jesus anticipated his own resurrection.
With these words the gospel tells us one of the three miracles with which Jesus demonstrated the gift of bringing the dead back to life:
"Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, ´Don't cry.´
Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, ´Young man, I say to you, get up!´ The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
They were all filled with awe and praised God. ´A great prophet has appeared among us,´ they said. ´God has come to help his people.´ This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country" Luke 7:11-17.
