Mumbai, November 13: It was a weekend bash for robbers as they looted 27 lockers at Bank of Baroda’s Juinagar branch in Navi Mumbai. Bank officials and customers were shocked on Monday morning when they discovered that robbers entered the bank by tunneling a hole through the shop next door.

As the bank was closed on weekend, it is not known whether the incident took place on Saturday or Sunday. The incident came to light when a customer and a bank officer entered found that 27 lockers had been broken into. The two also spotted a tunnel in the room, which led to the adjacent shop, the Hindustan Times reported.

“The culprits made a tunnel from the adjacent gaala [shop] and entered the locker room. They stole cash and jewellery, and made their escape through the tunnel,” said a police officer from Sanpada police station, on condition of anonymity.

The police said that the stolen goods are mainly gold jewellery but the value is yet to be ascertained.
