Prayer of thanksgiving: The rich grow poor and go hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. Psalm 34:10

The Psalm 34 is a prayer of thanksgiving, where the author of the Psalm highlighted the importance of the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity) to achieve fulfillment and prosperity in life.
The song begins with a praise to God because the Lord is the mercy (gentleness, compassion, kindness) and the righteousness itself, and by his providence all things subsist and men are rewarded for their actions:
"I will extol the LORD at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
I will glory in the LORD;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Glorify the LORD with me;
let us exalt his name together" Psalm 34:1-3.
The Psalm continues in the teaching and with a style very similar to the way of teaching of the teachers of wisdom in the books of Ecclesiastes, Wisdom, Ben Sira, and Proverbs, the hymn tells that the greatest good for man is the fear of God and that those who despise this spiritual gift are destined to fail.
This part of the Psalm bears a great resemblance to the song of Mary in Luke 1, the worship of God and his wisdom is what motivates the intelligence of the sensible man, the simple people are exalted and the proud are humbled, with these words the Psalm continues:
"Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Fear the LORD, you his holy people,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
The rich grow poor and go hungry,
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing" Psalm 34:8-10.
Avoiding evil, this sapiential psalm says, is fundamental to achieving life and the communion with God, because those who practice evil receive the same thing.
With these words that remember Psalm 1, the Psalm of the Two Ways, the hymn ends:
"Evil will slay the wicked;
the foes of the righteous will be condemned.
The LORD will rescue his servants;
on one who takes refuge in him will be condemned" Psalm 34:21-22.
