Standalone Unit
A Way for Amateurs to Verify Metals
Let me introduce you guys to the Sigma Metalytics Precious Metals Analyzer. It can test Silver, Gold, Platinum, Palladium, Rhodium, and Copper. It's extremely versatile, intuitive to use, and can get results within a second (please refer to video for instructions on how to use).
It also has various standard alloys in it's database; for example, one can search various forms such as pure Gold, 22 K Gold, 90% Gold, or the classic American Golden Eagle in addition to others.
Silver also contains various settings like the Silver Eagle and the Silver Brittania, however for the other three metals one can only search for the preset standard value. For my Rhodium and Platinum it has not failed me yet.
It is available in three different forms, the standalone (just comes with the unit itself without the bullion wands), the basic (comes with two bullion wands that can test various depths) and the bullion set (which comes with a larger bullion wand).
The biggest sensor is in the main housing and is used for large samples, like 1 oz coins and bars. To measure smaller objects one could use one of two external wands while connected to the main unit via a cable on the side.
The large wand is used for coins weighing between ¼ and 1 ounce. The small wand can be used for smaller samples, such as 1-gram bars or 1/10-ounce coins. The Bullion Wand can check up to 0.08 inches or 2mm, so each of these serve various purposes.
The price difference between the sets range from 50 extra (standalone to basic) and 100 USD (basic to Bullion). I personally own the Bullion Set but seldom use it unless I'm checking 100 oz bars, for most Stackers the basic or even the standalone would do the job depending on what you plan on stacking.
The Basic Version, note the two wands. The Bullion Set is what I have in the video.
So Why Should I Own One?
Though I personally have one and think it is a great investment for any Stacker, one should seriously think if this is necessary as it still comes with a pretty hefty price tag (around 590 USD for the standalone unit), though this inexpensive compared to other options. One should also remember that this can test five different metals as opposed to just one or two that others on the market can do. Also, this does not damage the sample and it can read through plastic cases, which is something you won't find with chemical testers.
As your Stack and number of acquisitions grow, your chance of owning a fake also does as well. If this helps you identify a fake Gold half oz coin it will pay for itself in one go. If one doesn't live near a reputable Precious Metals Dealer that is willing and able to verify metals one should seriously consider purchasing one, especially if you don't completely trust your sellers.
Another reason why I purchased the unit is for a possible post-crisis "SHIT HITS THE FAN" scenario where people may only be trading with Cryptos and Precious Metals. For a relative amateur like me, I personally wouldn't take Precious Metals as payment from anyone in public unless I had something to verify it with, and this light piece of equipment is very portable. It also has a very strong battery life that should suit most people's needs.
I have been very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it for any serious Stackers, especially if you're acquiring metals from more shady sources like Craigslist or random sellers on eBay.
If you found any value please feel free to upvote, follow, and resteem! Also, please feel free to comment if you have any questions or feedback whatsoever. Until next time Stack Nation,
