The prediction of Ahijah: He will give Israel up because of the sins Jeroboam has committed and has caused Israel to commit. 1 Kings 14:16

The First Book of Kings relates that Jeroboam was an official of King Solomon and it happened that leaving Jerusalem Jeroboam met the prophet Ahijah, who prophesied to him that he would be King of Israel; because of this prophecy Solomon tried to kill Jeroboam but he fled, and saved his life.
But Solomon died sometime later, and his son Rehoboam did not know how to keep the kingdom united, so the Kingdom of Judah went to Rehoboam and the Kingdom of Israel to Jeroboam just as the prophet had announced.
The Lord, through the prophet Ahijah, had told King Jeroboam that if he did what was right and observed the commandments he would be blessed; but Jeroboam did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, bringing among other things the worship of the Golden Calf in Israel, and the religious schism.
And this grave sin was one of the things that led the prophet Ahijah to give to the King Jeroboam the prediction of Israel's destruction:
"The LORD will strike Israel, so that it will be like a reed swaying in the water. He will uproot Israel from his good land that he gave to their ancestors and scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they aroused the LORD's anger by making Asherah poles. And he will give Israel up because of the sins Jeroboam has committed and has caused Israel to commit" 1 Kings 14:15-16.
With this, the Lord reminded Jeroboam that the blessing of the secure life was reserved not for sinners but for those men who feared God. The Lord in his wisdom does not condemn but makes men responsible for their own actions; because there is a teaching that in the Bible has always been fulfilled unfailingly: "For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction" Psalm 1:6.
