As I was growing up, my father always told me to prepare for a rainy day; he would never be able to do anything if I wasn't prepared. The phrase may have been a bit of a head scratcher for some people but it made sense. The rain is going to come and you are going to be wet and slippery. Don't you think that is a lot more likely to happen on the days you are going to be gone from home?
When we say prepare yourself for something, what does that mean exactly? I can think of at least two words that fit into that description; you must be ready. What is that feeling you get when you feel prepared for something? If you ever had an exam or a meeting, did you ever feel ready? That feeling usually lasted only a second and then you were forced to go back and do the things you couldn't complete in the time allotted.
We tend to prepare our minds for negative events but ignore the ones that come our way. To really prepare yourself, you need to be in the state of mind that allows you to act without thinking about doing it. We spend our lives pre-prepared but rarely live in a state where our minds are truly prepared. When we get stuck on something, we spend several minutes searching for a solution before we decide to take action.
What if instead of looking for a solution, you decided right then to get prepared? When you get ready, you can start thinking about what you want to do. It doesn't matter what you want to do because you are in the state of readiness. What difference does it make whether you get prepared one minute or ten minutes later? If you have ten seconds to prepare your mind for the next ten minutes, you will have already prepared yourself for the ten minutes to come.
It is true that you cannot be fully prepared for everything at once. You will only be able to prepare your mind for part of the work. If you start with a small part, like getting ready to speak in front of a group, then you will be ready enough to speak in front of a group of people, no matter how big or small the audience. This is because you are already very much conversationalist in the state of readiness.
When you want to make your life happier, healthier and more successful, you have to spend time on yourself by preparing your mind for success. Your mind is powerful. The more you train it to be proactive, the more it will become part of your life and the easier it will become to take action. This will lead to more success in your life.
