25 year old Camel Cigarettes tested for freshness - Does the humidor pack really work?

in prepping •  8 years ago

So I acquired a ton of vintage Joe Camel collector packs. I do not smoke myself but I was interested to know if they are still fresh enough to smoke. After all they are 25 years old.

For those of you not aware who Joe Camel is, it is a cartoon character the RJ Reynolds Tobacco company and Illuminati used to target children with their subliminal cigarette advertisements. Cartoons on cigarettes were banned in 1996. You could use the "camel cash" on the back of the cigarette pack to redeem "hard goods." I love to study vintage advertising and Camel is one of the main brands that I collect. Do a study of the words used in subliminal advertising and you will find "want, need and get" are the most common words used. Along with staring eyes or the single all seeing eye.

Here is an advertisement from 1933. Introducing the cellophane pack. But does it truly keep cigarettes fresh? Can it keep them good for even 25 years? Optimal time for curing cannabis or tobacco is under a year.

This is the process of curing. Next year I may plant 1,000 tobacco plants and experiment with making cigarettes that taste like those found in the store without the harmful additives. I have been growing Burley and Virginia Gold for years but next year I will expand to Turkish Oriental also.

And here is the experiment. Are they still fresh???

So the answer is..... YES! They still tasted fine he said. They smelled like a fresh pack when I opened them and after they were lit I could tell no difference in the smell of the second hand smoke. Cigarettes last ages in cellophane packs. Remember that when the economy collapses stores will be emptied within days and a pack of cigarettes will be extremely valuable to some. A great item to stock up on if you have everything else already. Of course I would suggest buying it by the bag in bulk along with papers and a rolling machine for maximum financial gain.

Here you can see Saturday Night Live's TV Funhouse joking about the subliminal advertising for cigarettes. If you haven't seen this it is a must see.

A big thanks to my friend Josh for risking his health for the furtherance of scientific study. If you enjoyed my experiment and want to see more then please follow me @noganoo! Have a wonderful night. God bless you.

Wow, I am genuinely amazed they would last so long! Love that video at the end!

I stopped smoking around 4 years ago. But this was cool as hell! I was really surprised they lasted that long. Thanks to Josh for trying one. I like they design of the packages as well. Smoking used to be so much cooler.
