Giving speeches at rallies and conventions versus interviews and press conferences?

I mean, speeches only really highlight the ability to read a teleprompter, using words cobbled together by those skilled in manipulation, in the direction decided on by those behind the scenes.

Which I guess is closer to the President's job irl than anything attached to personal beliefs or policy specifics that could be flushed out by an actual conversation. Nobody really expects politicians to hold onto those things once they enter office anyway, so they may as well just perform as they're told and not deviate from the script they're given in preparation for what the job actually entails.
