Let me start off by saying I'm not asking for or talking about upvotes.

Upvotes are nice, they say that you liked and appreciated the work someone did.

What I'm talking about is giving a shout out to someone who gave you an idea, maybe even went into some detail for you like the comment I gave to @rock-savant (not his real Steemit name but a clever twist that calls him a "savant").

savant
noun sa·vant \sa-ˈvänt, sə-, -ˈväⁿ; sə-ˈvant, ˈsa-vənt
2: a person affected with a mental disability (such as autism or mental retardation) who exhibits exceptional skill or brilliance in some limited field (such as mathematics or music); especially

In a civilized world you thank someone for replying to a post with info that addresses a concern you expressed. If that person goes on to give you a post idea and then outlines it for you, a simple "thanks for the idea @theblindsquirl" is customary.

Instead, you whip out a quick post and lose a follower.

Continue being an ungrateful, arrogant douchebag and maybe that extra $11.56 in Steem can keep you warm during those cold Canadian nights.

While I'm at it, people should start re-evaluating those "important" people that they're following.

Sure, they may have a high reputation and their posts have big rewards.

But are they upvoting ANYONES comments, or are they upvoting comments consistently?

@pepe-pappar

Check those big payout posts and see if they have the same people upvoting them and then see if you notice the same group of people upvoting their little circle of posts too.

Are they UPVOTING THE RESTEEMS OF THEIR OWN POSTS ?

Your childish, drug addled attempts at metaphysical poetry do not impress us.

@criag-rant @trevobj @yul-nevergetanupvotefromme-iana

Congratulations, you've uncovered your first circle-jerk.

Steemit is supposed to reward "quality content" and the rewards these people are getting are so far out of proportion to the trivial shit they post that, sooner rather than later, people will start associating Steemit with incest.

When you discover these types of human detritus, unfollow them immediately.

I won't even suggest asking in a comment to their post who they're saving their upvotes for.

It doesn't matter, it's not going to be you.

Besides, they don't acknowledge that kind of comment anyway. They just wait for the comments of the throng of ass-kissers that keep following them to bury your comment 14 pages down.

I used this quote earlier today in a comment to a post by @krnel (whose post addressed what I'll call civility) and I'm going to put it here again:

Moving parts in rubbing contact require lubrication to avoid excessive wear. Honorifics and formal politeness provide lubrication where people rub together. Often the very young, the untraveled, the naive, the unsophisticated deplore these formalities as "empty", "meaningless", or "dishonest", and scorn those who use them. No matter how "pure" their motives, they thereby throw sand into machinery that does not work too well at best.

In light of the way that HF19 fucked up voting, a simple shout out is sometimes a good substitute for an upvote (sometimes it's a decent way to vent without depleting your VP with a flag as well).

There are some good people here: @aggroed @gmuxx @swelker101 @mindhunter @nonameslefttouse @artedellavita @kyriacos are just a few.

Sorry if you didn't make that short list but there are a lot of you and the pricks have distracted me.

The Greedy Selfish Fuckers have kept me from reading, commenting on and upvoting your posts.

If someone does something decent and you don't have a lot of VP, mention them in your post or your comment.

Something as simple as that can mean a lot, especially when you have a few bad apples who do so much damage to OUR reputation.

And if new people are at least getting mentions they might stick around long enough to figure out how this all works.

Don't be a prick or a sibling-fucker (trying to remain gender balanced there, before I would have said sister-fucker), circle jerker is so pre-HF19.

I'm really new here right, 5 days or so? My vote adds up to nothing but I cast it where I really liked the article.

I've already gotten used to not getting much eyeballs on my articles. What I do is I sit on the new page, read what people are posting and if I find the article interesting I get into a conversation with the guy, say something to motivate the dude, blow in his sails a bit because I know from where I'm standing that it's hard to not receive any feedback.

Maybe there's a game to be played by following the whales, I personally don't care and I decide if I follow based on the material that's in front of me.

Some whales really interact, some just want the undying adoration of their nobody's.

Like you @ragequit, I'm trying to find interesting things to discuss with interesting people.

And you got a new follower. Patience and youll win in life. @ragequit

It sucks. Im here for content, and money of course(who are we kidding) but Im not reading into cheap voting tactics or follow that one or this one. I enjoy creating posts and reading post AND rewarding talented clever people. But we arent the majority and thatsjust the way it is. The follow for follow people who manically searches for the potential most money inbringing posts in hot will keep on playing the short term game. Most people are like that. Keep posting great content, keep collecting relevant followers and youll be the turtoise winning against the hare. Im wondering about why i have 380 followers, but only getting upvotrs from about 2% . Why are they following me? Waiting until i become a whale?

Yeah, I know @scandinavianlife

It's just so disappointing to see that kind of shit here too.

I'd at least respect them if they'd take a pic of the toilet bowl the next time they took a dump and then posted it with something like, "show me how much you love me" as a caption.

At least it'd be honest.

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by BlindSquirl from the Minnow Support Project. What rubs me wrong is seeing a guy with hundreds of followers and follows NOBODY- SMH- I usually send them a note telling them Steemit os a give and take platform nit just take,

Let me guess, they don't bother replying to your note did they @thelightreports?

Seems rage is circulating around in this community. This is the second such post. The other was @nonameslefttouse. And I see @ragequit made an appearance here too. It seems I have been away for a few days and missed something.

I don't think it's anything that has suddenly occurred in the last few days @whitesj40. I think there may be a higher concentration of people here who give a shit about the platform and are willing to stand up and say something when they witness the kind of behavior that the're tired of seeing everywhere else.

Steemit is different, or at least it's supposed to be.

This post has received a 2.34 % upvote from @booster thanks to: @ideagenerator.

You are very welcomed! Hat down for everybody that is making great posts. I am more of a contest man than a blogger.

I guess I am not used to write too much , to blog about me and my thoughts.... For now I am using minnow and rando to test the waters. Oh well, back to my contests. When I will be ready to post good content and have more faith in me I will let you know.

Still dealing with stuff for now and sticking with trivias and games for my followers ( current and future ones).

I wish you a safe and nice day/night!

Safe and nice day/night to you as well.

I hope you find the words to write, sometimes when I get started I just have to keep going. It's good to have an outlet.

Thank you!
I also have to wrap my head around these tags I have to put on the posts.
I read somewhere , I forgot where, that is better to have all the 5 tags; first tag being the category to which your post will stick.

~Steem On!~

Tags for me are almost entirely random. I haven't been able to get through the new posts without going down a rabbit hole and reading 5 or 6 posts from someone and then discovering someone else in the comments and chasing off after their work.

I haven't even begun to start searching categories, I can't keep up now.

This really is, for lack of a better term, SOMETHING here.

I feel kind of stupid looking at these replies and realizing I hadn't mentioned anyone who had commented. Sorry, I've corrected that.
