I think Pride Week came early this year as I did not realize these events were happening until today. It's a fun time with festivals and events all week long. I support my friends and everyone reallly, no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Exist is a street festival that a friend of mine runs in the Allentown neighborhood, on the block where you can find most of the gay bars in Buffalo. The area is probably going to succumb to gentrification due to the nearby newly built medical campus.
This also coincides with First Friday, which is an art gallery walk on the first Friday of every month. Most of the art galleries schedule their openings for the first Friday and offer free booze and food. The galleries were open but the food and booze was only available for a price at the street festival.
They were charging $6-$7 for a beer, but it was pretty easy to just buy a beer at the store and drink it within the festival area. I did get an awesome grilled cheese sandwich for just $2 from Melting Point, a local restaurant and one of the vendors at the event.
I apologize for my low-quality pictures. My phone just doesn't seem to take good photos after dark. The main event was a local trans-feminist punk band called Tina Panic Noise.
All in all this was a fun night experiencing new things and interacting with people of different ways of life. Happy Pride! I look forward to the parade on Sunday.
I ended the night by checking out Queen City Gallery's "Art Under the Stars."
