Believe in Jesus: We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us

The first epistle of John begins with a testimony of faith in Jesus, to announce the savior of humanity is to announce the promise of eternal life so that men abandon the oppression of sin and ignorance, and enter into the light of mercy (compassion, gentleness, kindness). The word of god teaches us that the Kingdom of God begins with a choice, as happens to the rich young man who wants to follow Jesus (Matthew 19:16-22), this young man was a faithful follower of the law of Moses, but leaves sad because he had many goods and could not part with them. We have to choose between the love for the things of the world and the love of the spirit, we have to choose between two paths, we sin or we live righteously: "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world" 1 John 2:15-16.
Jesus brings us his word and with it the gift of eternal life (the contemplative activity), to believe in Jesus is accepting the supernatural gifts that the Holy Spirit gives us: "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows" James 1:17
The apostle John begins with his testimony, in his first letter, to teach this eternal life that Jesus brings us:
"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us" 1 John 1:1-3.
