Knomni — Saving websites

in productivity •  6 years ago

In our ever-expanding world of information, one of the things we all need to store somewhere is a list of websites. How many times have you been to a website and then not been able to find it again?

You could store bookmarks in the browser, but if you have more than a handful of websites, it quickly becomes very difficult to organise and move around.

Knomni is a great way to organise information and websites are one of the bits we all seem to lose track of. And it’s free for personal use.

Where?

You can organise websites in any way you like. Some people prefer to create a separate section for all websites. Simply Ctrl-Enter to create a new item and call it something like “websites” or “links”. Then repeat the process to add new sections. Don’t worry; you can always reorganise sections, create subsections or completely remove sections later.

Create a separate section for websites

Some people prefer to have the links closer to the related section of the main tree. For example, if you are renovating your home and you need to link to construction websites, contractor websites or government agencies, why not create the links within the renovation section.

Store websites nested within the topic most related

It’s completely up to you. Perhaps a combination of both works best for you. Have another idea for organising? Post it in the comments below to help others.

How?

Creating a website couldn’t be easier. Simply type or paste the link into an item starting with “http” . The item will become a link. If you like like to name the link simply add a space after the link and then the name you would to give it.

for example: http://www.medium.com Medium: Articles written by the masses

or if you don’t want to name it http://www.medium.com

Two options for storing websites, with and without a separate description

Opening

To visit the website, simply click on the icon to open the website in a new tab or window depending on your browser settings.

Editing

Editing is just as simple. Double-click or press Enter when the item is selected and you will see the item as you originally typed it. Change the website part or the description part and press Enter to save.

Reorganising

Over time, you will need to create new sections, rename sections, or move websites into different sections. This is all very easy.

  • Renaming: Simply press enter to edit a section name, and Enter again to save
  • New Sub-Section: Ctrl-Enter to create a new subsection. Type in section name and then press Enter to save
  • Moving items: Select the website or section you’d like to move and then press Ctrl-(arrow) (e.g. Ctrl-Down) to move item left, right, up, or down.

Sharing

If you are a paid Premium member, you can share a group of websites with family members, groups or a business. It’s simple. Right-click on the item, select “share” and then pick the people you would like to share with.
