I can the the benefit here, it's for when you want to use open-source but still want to pay for a Windows license.

    Well, actually, when I studied web development a couple years ago, we were using windows machines at college. But setting up PHP along with MySQL on it was quite a pain. One of the instructors then suggested us this software, and it really made things a lot easier. So, it was the other way around of what you said: We already had Windows and just wanted to get going with PHP without hunting a lot of system files and other stuff.
