I have been asked a few times who are the official Steem Ambassadors. Here they are:
Steem Ambassadors are people who have gone through a process of putting themselves up in front of the community, and agreed to be both accountable to the promo-steem community, and who have agreed to work within the community guidelines. We also encourage them to act as de-facto leaders in their local communities (if appropriate) and be people who are happy to help in promotional activities if they can.
The Steem Ambassadors' job is very simple really. They curate on posts which are tagged with #promo-steem and decide whether they are high quality promotional posts which meet the community guidelines or not.
If they think a post meets these community guidelines, they will upvote them. If they do not, then they won't.
Please note the guidelines are interpreted by the Ambassadors themselves. Ultimately it's a bit subjective!
Once a post gets votes from 3 Steem Ambassadors, then it gets an upvote from the @steem-ambassador account which contains delegated SP from a wide group of people. The amount of upvote each post gets is determined by the number of posts which qualify that day.
Please note, a Steem Ambassador has no power to determine whether someone gets an upvote or not. A concensus has to be reached. So if you are a Steem Ambassador, you can't just vote for your mates, because it would have no effect unless other Steem Ambassadors agree with you that it's good quality.
This means we can also track their voting behaviour, and we will be publishing statistics on this soon.
I would also point out that sometimes language is an issue. Where a lot of people post promo work which is not in English for example, it means we need a larger number in that region to be able to curate on them.
Official Steem Ambassadors:
The current list of Steemians who have passed that process and who have been approved now stands at a total of 42.
There are a number who are pending approval, and who will be added to the guild in the next few days.

For anyone who wants to ask the question "But isn't so-and-so a Steem Ambassador?" the answer is NO. If they are not on this list, they have not submitted an application and had it approved by the community...and therefore they are NOT official Steem Ambassadors. Period.
The growing list of Steem Ambassadors will soon be available on the promo-steem.com updated website (coming soon!)
Combatting Spam
Finally, a word for everyone who is posting spam to the promo-steem tag. In the coming few days we will be rolling out the SPAMHAMMER. If you post to the tag, and your post is spam, plagiarised, or nothing to do with what the promo community supports, you run the risk of being blacklisted from the guild. This means you will not be able to achieve an upvote from @steem-ambassador in the future. We are going to roll this out, and it won't be long.
So my recommendation is to stop posting low quality work right now and figure out how you can add real value to the blockchain like all the brilliant promoters, educators and humanitarians out there who are smashing it every day.
Anarcotech x
The last part of your current post was definitely correct and must be understood by all promoters. The ambassadors need more then the #promo-steem tag to curate a post on the works of steem/steemit promotion.
We have to make sure that the approved ambassadors must be able to get the points on the community guidelines. And the most important points are about the promo steem's core objective. Were they get the points on it? or they just step-in other steemians..
Thanks for this excellent post @anarcotech, I totally get your points.
Regard.

Good to see an official list @anarcotech.
Thank goodness you are going to do something about the spam. After the crypto show in london I was tagged in loads of spam posts. Could you create something whereby we could easily report such posts. They're very easy to see when it's you name being tagged over and over.
Also, the Steem ambassadors you also report there as they're going through the posts but maybe they already do! 😁

We are going to roll out SPAMHAMMER. It is designed to encourage people to stop spamming, by blacklisting them from receiving the now growing steem-ambassador upvote. Steem Ambassadors will be able to use spamhammer in a totally decentralised way.

Great details.
Such an intelligent way to coin a word for the project on spam, 'SpamHammer'.
Goinnnn.... Well done with your projects

A very plausible explanation, so that the entire promoter #promo-steem should really do its job well, and meet the many clues in some of the provisions outlined by #steem-ambassador

I am proud to be part of @steem-ambassador and have done @promo-steem in various cities, long before becoming part of @steem-ambassador. I think it's a fun job to meet people every day to introduce Steem/it and how to work with this platform.
Thanks so much @anarcotech for your supports.
