Just to say, this post is part of a much wider social media campaign I am running to promote STEEM and its various front-ends so I apologise to any steem veterans out there that may read this and think that it is dumbed down; this article will be accompanied with a YouTube & DLive Video that when created I will put at the top and will attempt to share to a wide non-crypto audience going into similar detail which will have this article as its description - I wrote this for newbies and minnows alike but mostly for people that are entirely new to concept of STEEM! I was originally on YouTube but discovered steem and have been hooked ever since, I am dedicated and believe that by showing the world how easy and intuitive this blockchain is we can all get that valuable content we desperately need.
When I got started on Steem, I made my first post and like a baby making its first steps I had a few hiccups, tested the waters with my feet then jumped head first in at the deep end. I realised that this platform doesn’t want reviews of the new Nokia 3310 reboot, or pictures of my cat; but real genuine “valuable” content, that which you couldn't find just anywhere: but only on here. There is a space on STEEM for that kind of content but you can find the “review” sort of genre anyway. I just finished my Pre-Degree Art Foundation at Eastleigh College in the UK and the thought struck me....Why don't I just make this platform my first point of call when it comes to showcasing any content I create or at the very least document my journey!
So I decided from the point of view of a 19 year old to write a brief article on what I believe to me are the 5 most powerful tools that STEEM still has to offer for every single creative across the entire world, no matter how big or how small, I genuinely believe STEEM has something for everyone: especially if you are inherent creative and are dismayed by the current platforms you have to share your creations whatever they are.
5 - DECENTRALISATION
source
When you post and share your content or work on STEEM you are using Blockchain technology, which in of itself is decentralised. This means that it is censorship resistance and it is one of the most important factors of posting content on Steem. Centralised social media's are way too easy to censor, with companies being able to hide from the view of the public anything that doesn't agree with the status quo.
Perhaps your planning a big protest/stunt and need to get your message out there without your mission being buried by a family-safe algorithm? Steem has got you in the fact that your work/idea is in an immutable ledger, cannot be destroyed or changed by a central authority (easily) and can be seen across the entire world no matter what.
4 - NETWORKING
source
Around a decade ago, the internet was a much smaller place, likeminded individuals could easily find each other, converse about ideas, share content and create communities or groups and help one another grow their project into a moment of history, but those places are too crowded or non existent and your ideas may not get to the right people at the right time. At steemit there is always a community for whatever you are working on, a place for you to not only share your ideas and get feedback on them, but a place to network and make friends, contacts even perhaps you are working on a collaborative art project and have an issue that needs solving or maybe you need to outsource a design to someone. Because of the size of the community you are almost guaranteed to find a community that caters for your craft, get involved find a discord server and chat to people that are as interested as you are!! An example of this my recent blockchain exhibition piece I created exclusively on DLive and the help I received was absolutely insane with every technical hiccup I learned more and more and I know that the friends I made would help solve any issue that arose practically instantaneously!
3 - CHANGE
source
STEEM utilises the Graphene blockchain, and by posting and sharing your content using Blockchain technology, it is decentralised (to an extent) You must realise the truth that by using the "old" forms of social media you are essentially giving away free time/money and YOUR CONTENT to Facebook/YouTube/Twitter without getting anything in return, but exposure (but as I stated earlier, even this is difficult and yes you may be financially compensated but nowadays the new equation for making it seems to be;
Exposure + Influence = Money
but how the hell are you supposed to get the exposure needed to influence if you have no money?
These corporations and organisations monetise and monopolise your content without you ever seeing a dime unless you use the aforementioned formula, but by using STEEM you are leading the way for change.
A move from central figure heads deciding when and where to reward you for what you produce, selling your data off to the highest bidder with no reimbursement and censoring willy nilly what they choose and desire. I think a lot of us on here forget that we are supporting blockchain technology which has come a long way from 2008, to where now a site like Steemit is just like any other social media site we use daily, albeit with a slight learning curve. The face of the man is different but the brain is the same; A powerful industry disrupting technology that can revolutionise just about any setting that involves a trusted medium.
By posting and investing time on Steem you are paving the way for a more interconnected creative community, that is rewarding more so than taking and demonstrating to the world that the consumer can reward the creator without compromising on quality. There are some beautiful community efforts to help out those in need like @youarehope and brilliant startups like @yensesa that have all become born from this platform and are changing the game on ways to help others and change lives so please check them out too.
2 - FINANCIAL
source
It is hard for a video creator like me to make money, not even profit, but even just breaking even; unless they are commissioned for their time and creativity in the form of a project/job offer. YouTube has recently introduced new rules which means that it is harder than ever to try and become an influencer if you are small time, and many will get left by wayside in terms of pay due to the fact that advertisers only will advertise on very specific "family safe" content. Except on STEEM, the possibilities are endless in terms of financial renumeration, there are curation groups that search and seek out specific content, platforms such as DLive, Dtube and Utopian upvote valuable and creative content or you can send your SBD/STEEM to a vote-selling service such as SmartSteem or minnowbooster and receive profitable upvotes! But the money you make if you do this is extremely minute, you cannot expect to immediately "make" money on STEEM it takes time like all things do, but until that points comes you will make friends, learn innovative ways to improve your craft and create a following all the same!
1 - VISIBILITY
source
The pond of visibility has become clouded on other platforms, people have to scream to be heard on other platforms, by either whoring themselves out in the sense of creating stupid or ridiculously insensitive content to be paid just by causing outrage or offending people and the crap thats on the youtube home page I mean come on??
Take one look at either of the Paul Brothers and you'll see exactly what I mean, how long did it take for any action to be taken against them by YouTube for the disgusting things they've done in the past, and then look at the time it takes for the same sort of content to disappear from this site via flagging.
Even old whales who are exasperated with the current situation with spammers and shitposting can safely agree that the community polices itself, and that if necessary evil or convoluted content can be flagged back to the dark ages no matter what the post payout is, not lost forever as it is on the blockchain but atleast not visible to the masses. This is why the whole "cp on the blockchain argument" never made sense to me, take the suicide forest scandal with Logan Paul recently, yes youtube took the video down, but people immediately downloaded and shared it across the entire internet and it ended up on liveleak, out of YouTubes control. The internet acts almost like a broken blockchain in this sense that if anyone wants to save a piece of data they have free will to do so, so even if removed by a central authority its never truly lost ( but thats another story ) .
Agree with your points. It's a bright future and loads of development. You can use Steemit as a creative, or to reach a regular audience, or as random promotion of something.
It's also a mighty new dip into the waters of global wealth transfer via blockchain. Pay it forward. Let's build from here and make it a great place.
