Ok, so when I first started Steem, I published a bitcoin public address, then I proved I was me by publishing the private key, both on my website and on Steem. There are better ways, but this works. All I have basically is bitaddress.org downloaded, and a program that takes a file and spits out a private key and its public key hash.
So since Steemit is centralized, it could take my key and put up its own message, while showing me what I want to see. I trust that it will not, but for theory purposes, koin.tech / k0in.com (certified by archive.org) will recieve my key and message first, and soon after so will Steemit.com / Steem. Then even if my site is compromised or ceases to exist, Steem will continue to hold it and my publications.
