Relevance: Herbal Medicine works! For me constipation is an unacceptable side-effect though, have you ever tried the older plant for pain relief?

Well, it doesn't hurt more! Doesn't help much either, except by distraction.

I suspect the problem is really that the patents wore out, and now the pharmaceutical companies are trying to replace opiates with drugs they can profit from.
worked for DDT and Freon..

I was actually pretty surprised to learn that Morphine was patented at all. Hell, Opium has been around for thousands of years. The only proof of medicinal plants I know of that is older is the oldest evidence of cultivation so far revealed: 12kya old Hemp seed.

Funny we're polar opposites on this issue. My husband was also a carpenter by trade. He had chronic leg pain, supposedly caused by a pinched nerve in his back. He underwent a couple of medical procedures.
They put him on opiates and I know they helped with the pain short-term, but he had to keep taking more and more as he developed a drug tolerance. He was on them for maybe three miserable years.
It wasn't till he finally gave them up that he realized much of his continued leg pain was being caused by "withdrawal" when his body craved higher and higher doses.
It's hard for me to see how opiates can be used for chronic pain since they become less and less effective and you need to keep taking more and more.
I have believed that the opiate crisis is quite real and caused intentionally. We know others who had similar if not worse experience with addiction. All of them have gotten off the opiates completely and it was tough. But there's no way they would go back.
I'd also like to offer a natural remedy that a friend of ours suggested; Tumeric with curcumin. Idk if it will help, but it might be worth a try. Living with chronic pain sucks. You have my heart felt sympathy.

I am at a lower dose now than I was 20 years ago. I have been off meds from time to time, even for years, but was unable to work, and for a while, was even bedridden. A pinched nerve is part of the injury, but it's not even the worst part.
All my lumbar discs are basically gone.
I have resisted increasing the dosage, and carefully lowered it to as little as I could still function with. I believe this has prevented my suffering much in the way of withdrawal, although it is all too easy to understand why most folks can't do this.
For me, I have found that the desire for more isn't very compelling, as long as I take as little as I can get away with, just enough to blunt the pointy end of the pain.
One thing I found very interesting was that after I had taken some side work driving (field inspections) I developed sciatica - which sucked! Therapeutic massage cured it, and I've limited my self to three days max (non-stop) driving, in order to give my nerves a chance to relax. It hasn't come back.
I'm a big fan of turmeric, although I haven't used it therapeutically. I love the color it gives stir-fry, a signature dish I make, and the flavor is almost always welcome. Maybe not so much on ice cream =p
I'll look into curcumin, but I fear that such ancient foods and herbs, as oregano, cucumbers, and turmeric were well understood by folks long before the AMA came along, and pain relief isn't amongst their benefits.
Thanks!

The best natural remedy for pain that could replace all opiates and pharmaceuticals is “Oil of 🌿 Oregano” . It has been scientifically proven to be as powerful as morphine and is currently being studied as a possible remedy for certain cancers. Here is my blog explaining my personal experience with this herb 🌿 that is worth its weight in Gold 😉

I was unaware of such claims for oil of oregano. I will check them out forthwith. Oregano has been used by people for centuries, and it seems unlikely to me that it has significant painkilling potential that has remained so long unrecognized.
Thanks!
