Americans always have car accidents, with or without "smart" cars.
Germany has more strict requirements to get their initial driver's license; Americans think it's an entitlement to their children.
Accidents are great bounties to personal injury lawyers. They go for big purses, then they lien the reward so you can't get it directly from the insurance company. The area of insurance which contains this great debacle is called property and casualty. This is where the gecko commercials and voice overs from bass profundo African-American males come from.
Pre-paid legal expense would be a player here too; they also exist under the insurance umbrella. But they're little brother to big brother, personal injury.
Big brother is really worried they'll lose judgments to "smart cars," but they should be helping little brother get money to real patients, victims of car accidents and the other admissions to the healthcare industry, ie American hospitals. We all need their help.
So please reconsider. Property and casualty could be used to address the healthcare/health insurance crisis in this country.
