Messianic prophecy: I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely. Jeremiah 23:5

in prophecy •  last year

The Book of the prophet Jeremiah begins with a call from God to the prophet, announcing, among other things, the destruction of the city of Jerusalem, Judah had sinned against the Lord and his ruin was near.
Like every devout prophet, he taught that the Lord demanded the conversion of his people: "Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart and be saved. How long will you harbor wicked thoughts?" Jeremiah 4:14.
But the prophet was not heard, and so the Lord answered him: "I have withdrawn my blessing, my love and my pity from this people" Jeremiah 16:5. The prophet also performed various oracles, announcing the end of Zedekiah, the last king of Judah, along with the destruction of his capital.
But Jeremiah was not only known for this, because Jeremiah later condemned the false shepherds with a misfortune: "Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!" Jeremiah 23:1.
And he announced that after the test of the exile, God would reunite his sheep, blessing them with a messianic prophecy, the Lord would fulfill his promise to David with a descendant who would reestablish righteousness among men:
"´The days are coming,´ declares the LORD,
´when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch,
a King who will reign wisely
and do what is just and right in the land.
In his days Judah will be saved
and Israel will live in safety.
This is the name by which he will be called:
The LORD Our Righteous Savior´" Jeremiah 23:5-6.
For the christian religion this prophecy has a special meaning, this messiah that Jeremiah spoke of is the Lord Jesus. Jesus with his wisdom, his miracles, and his teachings personified this beautiful prophecy, as King of a new Israel no longer according to the flesh but according to the spirit. Jesus was prophesied by Jeremiah and announced as a righteous savior.
