The gift of prophecy: Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. Acts 11:28

The Book of Acts of the Apostles tells how in the early days of the church the spiritual gift of prophecy was manifested among the believers in Jesus.
After Stephen's death, many followers of Jesus dispersed due to persecution and some disciples founded the Church of Antioch. Paul and Barnabas preached in this Church, believers who would later begin their first missionary journey, and it was at that time that some prophets went from Jerusalem to the Church of Antioch, during the rule of Emperor Claudius.
And in Antioch it was that a spirit-gifted Christian named Agabus made a prophecy, as recounted in the Book of Acts:
"During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world" Acts 11:27-28.
This fact allowed the first Churches to be prepared and thus face the situation reported in the Book of Acts. This story shows how spiritual gifts, in this case the gift of prophecy, must be at the service of others and especially of the entire community, the gifts that God gives are not to achieve selfish goals.
Because as the apostle Paul taught: "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good." 1 Corinthians 12:4-7.
The gift of prophecy is one of the most mysterious spiritual gifts and shows how God from eternity, that is, from an eternal present, disposes of the destiny of man and the world. But it is up to man to make wise use of this gift, because the meaning of human life is to increase the order and perfection of the universe, as Jesus taught in the parable of the talents.
