The prophecy of Ahijah to Jeroboam: I will take the kingdom from his son's hands and give you ten tribes. 1 Kings 11:35

The First Book of Kings with a simple story, the prophecy of Ahijah to Jeroboam, shows the importance of the gift of prophecy among men.
Ahija's prophecy changed the life of Jeroboam, because when King Solomon found out what God was going to do after his death, the division of his kingdom into two pieces, Israel and Judah, the first kingdom for Jeroboam and the second kingdom for his son, Solomon ordered to kill Jeroboam, and so this officer to save his life had to flee to Egypt.
The King Solomon with the decision he made against Jeroboam ignored a spiritual principle, like a fine clock mechanism, when a prophecy is true everything that is done against it only reinforces it. For people tied exclusively to worldly matters, an affirmation of this type is nonsense and madness, but prophecies, when they are very important, have the power to condition decisions and events in the present; the designs of the creator of all things have a transcendental meaning, and the divine providence is indefectible and cannot be changed. God had made known to Solomon his displeasure for the idolatry of his foreign wives, and God through his prophet Ahijah had expressed his will, Jeroboam after the death of Solomon would become King of Israel.
The first book of Kings tells us that Jeroboam leaving Jerusalem met Ahijah who was wearing a new cloak, Ahijah tore the cloak into twelve pieces and gave ten to Jeroboam with these words:
"But I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon's hand; I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David my servant, whom I chose and who obeyed my commands and decrees. I will take the kingdom from his son's hands and give you ten tribes. I will give one tribe to his son so that David my servant may always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put my Name. However, as for you, I will take you, and you will rule over all that your heart desires; you will be king over Israel" 1 Kings 11:34-37.
