The first Book of Chronicles recounts one of the most emotional moments in the life of King David, his meeting with the prophet Nathan, where this prophet revealed the word of God to King David, telling him that a descendant of his would establish an eternal kingdom and that It would not be destroyed.
This prophecy of Nathan to David, while the great King was making the preparations to build the first temple in Jerusalem, is known as the Davidic Covenant. For Christians this prophecy has a deep meaning, because for Christianity this prophecy is a foretaste of the arrival of Jesus as the Messiah and savior of humanity; all the prophecies made by the prophets after Nathan, such as Isaiah, about the birth of Jesus, have their foundation in this covenant.
With these words transmitted by God to Nathan during the night, the prophet made known to the King the pact made by God with the son of Jesse:
"I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you: When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor. I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever." 1 Chronicles 17:10-14.
Although this prophecy of Nathan seems to indicate the arrival of Solomon as King of Israel, this Kingdom would not be established by Solomon, since his kingdom was divided in two after his death. This Kingdom promised by God, according to Christianity, is the new Israel according to the spirit, the church, and not the Israel according to the flesh based on blood ties.
